Publisher's Summary

Lady Isobel Hume is an expert swordswoman who knows how to choose her battles. When the king asks her to wed a French nobleman to form a political alliance, she agrees. But that's before the devilishly charming Sir Stephen Carleton captures her heart-and tempts her to betray her betrothed, her king, and her country.

Sir Stephen Carleton enjoys his many female admirers-until he dedicates himself to winning the lovely Isobel. So when a threat against the king leads Isobel into mortal danger, Stephen has a chance to prove that he is more than a knight of pleasure...and that love can conquer all.

Critic Reviews

"Mallory has an amazing ability for creating a riveting story, intertwining adventure and history overlaid with great depth of emotion and laced with a constantly increasing level of sensuality. Such depth and sensuality are a rare treat." ( RT Book Reviews)

Okay

Any additional comments?

This is only okay - nothing extraordinary. Typical story of King ordering beautiful women to marry based on political reasons. Strong strapping man of great skill in battle and in the bedroom gets involved with the women. Strong attraction between strapping young many and beautiful woman but it is one of those love/hate relationships on her part. Woman is so stupid she will give up a very very good thing because of some misplaced fear. You know the rest. The narrator is good but the story is forgettable.

So Dumb

Another heroine that runs out into a patch of villians for absolutely no good reason, denies the man she loves out of complete stupidity and acts like every basic girl in every romance novel written. I am not sure why I read this.

Enjoyable To Some Extent

I guess you would have to live during that time period to truly understand the restrictions put on women. They had no control over their life. They were at the mercy of men, and especially men with power. I did enjoy the characters and the supporting characters as well. Some parts made me ask Why? However, I enjoyed this book.

Such Weaklings!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This is the second book of such weak, silly heroes and heroines! Is it an English thing? If so I will stick to the Scottish Highlanders. There is one more book in this series. I will see if it gets any better. The quasi history lessons, sword fights and Derek Perkins' performances are all that save these books.

Not my favorite of the series

I had a hard time keeping all the characters straight in my mind. Was confusing at times. This wasn't my favorite book, but I still love the series.
