Publisher's Summary

A dramatic new Alien novel, as Weyland-Yutani seeks to recover from the failure of Hadley's Hope and successfully weaponize the Xenomorphs

With the failure of Hadley's Hope, Weyland-Yutani has suffered a devastating setback - the loss of the Aliens they aggressively sought to exploit. Yet there's a reason the Company has risen to the top of the food chain. True to form, they have a redundancy already in place...the facility known as "The Cold Forge".

Remote station RB-232 has become their greatest asset in weaponizing the Xenomorphs. However, when Dorian Sudler is sent to RB-232 to assess their progress, he discovers that there's a spy aboard - someone who doesn't necessarily act in the company's best interests. For Dorian, this is the most unforgivable of sins. When found, the perpetrator will be eliminated with extreme prejudice. If unmasked, though, this person may be forced to destroy the entire station...and everyone on board. That is, if the Xenomorphs don't do the job first.

Not the best Alien book

I did not find any of the characters to be likeable, except Nick and he doesn't show up until near the end. The protagonists are awful people. The antagonist is annoying. It bothered me how the antagonist always seemed to get the drop on everyone. Annoying! Not as much of the Xenos as I expected. I particularly did not like the overly descriptive animal experiments. This book certainly does not even come close to the caliber of River of Pain and earlier alien books.

Why was this book called alien ?

The only thing that made this book listenable for me was the narrator, he was pretty good. Why was there so much attention given to the bureaucrat he was completely unlikable as a main character and a boring bad guy ? There wasn’t a single character I cared if they lived or not except for the android who I felt bad for because one of the main characters called blue was constantly violating him every chance she got and I guess your supposed to sympathize with her because she’s crippled . But in short she was a scum bag and not just because of what she did to Marcus . Oh I almost forgot about the aliens ( apparently that’s something I have in common with the author ) or the lack there of . When they were making a cameo appearance they felt shoehorned into the story and given minor details .

Pretty grim story with some unlikable characters

Hard to finish because it was hard to root for anyone. Blue was somewhat sympathetic and that was about it. The villan was good.

Hard to finish.

Unfortunately this book was hard to finish. The storyline was overly repetitive and way too much about the director. also the aliens were almost nonexistent in the book and didn't follow any of the normal habits of aliens in the canon.

Great SciFi

This was an excellent listen. You don’t have to be a die hard alien fan to enjoy Cold Forge. The science was well thought out and the story was fast paced. Michael Braun delivers a pitch perfect performance.

Absolutely brilliant story from the Alien universe. A creepy and intriguing tale that builds and builds, delivering tense thrills, suspense and action with characters you actually care about.

Superb book.

Do yourself a favour and go out and pick up a copy of Alien: The Cold Forge. From Aaron Percival here at Alien vs. Predator Galaxy, I award Alex White’s Alien: The Cold Forge a 10 out of 10.

Silly Alien story

The plot is so telegraphed it might as well have been read on sign posts. Moral of the story, do not mix dangerous virus that somehow attacks everything electronic in the same lab as a load of Monkey based Aliens. I listened to it twice, because I couldn't believe it was so bad!

Sadly it was!!

For all fans of the alien movies, get this.

original story that balance the movie's universe with an exciting original story and all new characters. the heroes journey is at times slightly repetitive and exsadurated but the suspense keeps the story going without ever becoming boring.

The narrator's cool and calm deliverance brings an extra chill to the story. I was captivated from the first sentence to the very last word.

Strong addition to the universe

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started. But, I am happy I stayed with it. Steadily builds up to a gripping climax. I found myself caring about some characters and hating others. Any fan of the Alien franchise would enjoy this reading.

A dark thriller with more than teeth

Incredible story, very different in places to some of the other Alien novels out there. This story is essentially a thriller at times and features one of the most sinister psychopaths I've ever heard of.

I honestly cannot recommend this book enough, if I were 20th Century Fox I'd be looking at this one to turn into a great feature film.

Hard to tell who the real predator is...corporate or alien

Riveting story from the opening paragraph, and the ending was satisfying, but I would never have guessed it even up to it’s denouement.

Basic story is, The Cold Forge is a scientific research outpost of Weyland Yutani where they are experimenting with Alien ‘eggs’, looking to find ways of controlling them. What the company doesn’t know though, is that at least one of the resident scientists is not what they seem.

Enter Corporate Representative, Dorian Suttler, “toe-cutter” extraordinaire. An arrogant, self-possessed narcissist who takes pleasure in others fear and discomfort.

Rather than being afraid of the aliens, he admires them....especially after they are freed by a rogue project.

Sit back and watch the body-count.

This book is very much as good as the original that started the whole thing. The suspense, the horror, the way it worms it’s way into your psyche and makes you look over your shoulder the further into the book you get.

....perfectly narrated by Michael Braun

Brilliant.

I’ve been waiting for a fresh and inspired new story in the Aliens universe and this was it. Not connected or tagging along with any other stories..sitting nicely somewhere in the Amanda Ripley/Isolation era..tho she’s not a character. It’s a story that depicts humans as being the worse species and juxtaposes morality and ethics with very vulnerable people. This story..just..nails it.

Worthy addition to Alien and Aliens.

wow! this was fantastic! the story was totally engaging, human (and android) characters are as interesting to hear about as the scenes with the creatures themselves, and performed excellently throughout. Side note, it’s great to have a new alien story that doesn’t feel the need to involve Ellen Ripley in some weird far-fetched way. Just new, exciting characters! very much a worthy addition to the first two outstanding movies.
