One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Publisher's Summary
Golden Globe nominee Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation, Girl with a Pearl Earring) brings a palpable sense of joy and exuberance to her performance of Lewis Carroll's enduring classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. From the White Rabbit and Mad Hatter to the Cheshire Cat and Queen of Hearts, she imbues each madcap character with a distinct voice and personality that will leave a lasting impression long after the adventure is over.
One hundred and fifty years after its original publication, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland remains one of the most widely read, deconstructed, referenced, and reinterpreted works of Western fiction. It tells the story of the young and imaginative Alice, who grows weary of her storybook, one "without pictures or conversations", and follows a hasty hare underground - to come face to face with a host of strange and fantastic characters.

Incredible
Any additional comments?
I've loved Alice's Adventures in Wonderland for as long as I can remember. As a child I adored the magic, the adventure, and the kooky characters. As an adult, I grew to love Carroll's imagery, symbolism (perhaps unintentional), and his ability to turn what seems like nonsense into an enduring children's tale. No matter how many times I've read this story and watched the movies, I feel like I can always return to the familiar and colorful place that is Wonderland. Scarlett Johansson brings such incredible depth and wonderment to this timeless tale, that this just may be my new favorite interpretation. Her sister, veteran narrator Vanessa Johansson directed this performance. I guess talent runs in the family

Why is this a classic?
I was excited to finally read this classic work of Carroll's. However, this is the most non-sensical, confusing, detached string of events that I have ever read. It doesn't even classify as an anthology. It is one story that makes no rational sense on how things occur from one to the next. Alice is in a room, crying so much the room fills with her tears creating an ocean, and then she finds a shore of animals who after a series of non-sensical events all then return home....BUT I thought this was all in a room of doors?? Anyway, Johansson is a fantastic narrator despite Carroll's odd story. #Fantasy #Absurd #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

I underestimated
Having an American read the character of Alice in the story of Alice in Wonderland seemed like a big mistake to me when I set out to listen to Scarlett Johansson read this classic.
I underestimated her skill as a reader and performer, and what a pleasant surprise that was.
The story of Alice in Wonderland isn't a new one. It's been animated and acted and animated again, and released in a hundred formats. Filled with whimsical characters and a fulfilling plot of a little girl coming into her own (say what you will about Lewis Carroll's hidden agenda in the story) it's a surefire win for both kids, and imaginative adults alike. If you enjoyed this book as a kid, you'll enjoy the version performed by Scarlett.
Scarlett truly offers a transcendent performance in this. While her British accent might not be perfect her ability to bounce between all of the characters in the story and give them unique life is wonderful. I especially enjoyed her performance with the mock turtle and the griffin.
Alice in Wonderland is a short listen at less than three hours, but one that I think anyone will enjoy. I don't recommend speeding the narration. Her voice is well suited for the style of the story and the pace she reads at, and you'll lose some of her nuance if you accelerate the pace.
Lots of fun from a new voice telling an old story.

Any additional comments?
Everyone knows the story of Alice, the little girl who fell down a rabbit hole and found herself having the most outlandish high of all time.
I wondered what an audiobook of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland would be like because you know, crazy land and all. After watching Her, I fell in love with Scarlett Johansson’s voice. So naturally, I thought I’d enjoy an audiobook narrated by her and luckily, she narrated Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland!
The first chapter was great, Johansson’s voice was initially very soothing (yup that’s the word), and I thought I was going to enjoy listening to the rest of the audiobook. I got through the first 15 minutes like “Urgh yes this.is.perfect!”
However, as the story progressed, I found myself getting agitated by Johansson’s voice. When she spoke as Alice, it sounded like she was complaining all the time or on the verge of breaking into tears, for the other characters, her voice got pretty screechy, and I winced in pain when she spoke as the Queen of Hearts. (I’m not exaggerating). She was terrible at all of the other voices; I just about found the Mad Hatter bearable. It sounded like she was straining her voice to produce sounds, so I started wondering whether she was in pain instead of listening to the story.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland quickly became an audiobook I just wanted to hurry up and finish listening to so I could stop listening to it. The audiobook has hundreds of glowing reviews on Audible, and I just don’t understand why! My ears hurt after listening to this.
I didn’t feel like Johansson did justice to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, it’s a story featuring talking animals, a homicidal queen, and a kid most likely on acid and I actually had difficulty getting into it let alone liking it. My focus remained on the story up until chapter nine and after that, it was all background noise with me occasionally reacting to sudden sharp sounds from Johansson.
I wouldn’t recommend this narration to anyone, especially not an Alice in Wonderland fan out of fear of having something hard thrown at my face

A classic brought back to life.
This story has a special place in my heart. It's one I remember very fondly of my childhood after having countless books and even an audio book (cassette tape) which I had read and listened to many times.
So when I heard that this version was available I had to get it!
It is read so well and each character was brought to life exceptionally by Scarlett's performance.
The time zipped by so quickly after again having been sucked into the story.
I highly recommend this Audio book to anyone, whether you are new to the story or not. It's a 10 out of 10 from me.

Scarlett Johansson gives an amazing performance, the book itself is quite average (sorry fans!). It really feels like an exercise in style (with lots of dad jokes) rather than a well-crafted work of fiction. I’m 32 now and never read the book before now, so maybe I would think about it differently if I had read it as a child.

Amazing narration of a beloved classic!
Loved it start to finish. The Blue Caterpillar and and Gryphon and Mock Turtle poems in particularly were fabulously well paced. Scar-Jo you legendary woman!! She never ceases to amaze.

Great narration of a difficult book
The flow and voices are performed brilliantly. The underlying story, despite being a classic, jumps all over the place and is difficult to follow. Its a story that if read would require rereading pages to fully understand. Unfortunately that isn't so easy in audio form.

Good overall
Scarlett Johansson gives a great performance but I would notice sometimes she misses bits when I read along. These missed details however, do not spoil the experience. I’m reading the Penguin Classics edition so perhaps there are slight variations depending on the publisher.

Whimsical indeed
Scarlett is wonderfully charming with such varied vocalisations for each character. Full commitment from her. Never afraid to lean into the ridiculousness.

A delight to listen to!
This is hands down the best performed audiobook I’ve ever listened to! Scarlett Johansson is brilliant. The variety of voices she does for the characters and creatures is astonishing, and she perfectly captures the whimsy of wonderland.

Great production story is a bit too much
This is the first time for me for the whole written story. started listening to this with my son on a road trip. he fell asleep and I listened to the whole thing. it's a great audio production of the book but the book is still a bit much. I feel it's maybe a better listen in bitesize bits and not too much at a time. Scarlet Johansen does a great job narrating although some of the characters come out a bit annoying (maybe purposefully).

Loved Scarlett Johansson rendition of this classic
Scarlett Johansson did a beautiful job narrating the story. It was such a pleasure to listen to her colourful interpretation. Thoroughly recommend this even if just for the trip down memory lane.
