Conflicted - But Really Enjoyed This Book

This is the first fime I have read (listened to) a book about Alice. She had an interesting and fast paced life. I enjoyed the book and learning about her, I am just not sure how I feel about her. She was a flawed human like we all are. This book bought out all the emotions and feelings a person can have - which is what a good book does. I really liked her spunk in some chapters and questioned her reasoning and politics in others. She stayed true to herself, but was smart enough to realize that the world changes and you have to move forward and embrace the changes and progress instead of holding on to the past. I am sure I would have enjoyed being a guest at one of her dinner parties, since I like to read as often as I can, and at 63, I do my best to learn something new every day. Wealth is in knowledge - not money.

A deeply fascinating and riveting weave of the history and life of a truly remarkable woman, and the history of her time into the (for me) very recent past. This telling painted the nuisances of her life, her impact across diverse times, social movements, political landscapes, and historical events, in layers of interesting history…and the people at the center of those times. This book is not cumbersome, even in light of its length. It is a bright, active, energetic and at times humorous, fast-paced and deeply engaging telling of a woman who truly lived life to the fullest, and beyond…and the history that surrounded, inspired, and in the end failed to limit her.

As a voracious consumer of all things Theodore Roosevelt, it was thrilling to listen to the story of his first daughter Alice. She lived a fascinating life that was thoughtfully fleshed out by the author and narrated with perfection.

Alice Roosevelt Longworth's life was both fascinating and sad. This biography was well researched and provided insights into why Alice was the way she was.

Amazing woman

LOVED the history and the interesting life Alice led and interesting people who admired her.

Cigarette and pet garter snake in her purse..

..while her Father was President.. Alice has a big personality, was ahead of her time..not quite Victorian Era, but ahead of Bright Young Things..

This is a solid biography, not a "historical fiction". Definitely worth a listen, good reader and a solid well researched book presented in solid narrative. I enjoyed the later life being so well detailed. I had no knowledge of her before this, she was an amazing woman.

Unlike some reviewers, I did not feel the book was politically biased. there were a few spots where it seemed that today's norms for women were being applied, missing a little of the nuance of earlier societies. But Alice was ahead of her time.

Deep dive into Roosevelts

Enjoyed the history of Teddy Roosevelt through the eyes of his daughter. Very detailed, gave many facts that were new to me. The relationship between the democrat and republican arms of the Roosevelts was fascinating.
I liked the added information on other well known political figures as well. This rounded out the story with interesting context.

Amazing Stateswoman and our first Princess

This is a well researched and informative narrative on an incredible life well lived. The narrator chosen really brings Alice to life with her upper crust east coast accent when speaking for Alice. Highly recommended
