Publisher's summary

Alice lives under the radar in a small town where nothing ever happens. And that's how she likes it. But her quiet life is upended when Trey Hensley transfers to the elite Mansfield Prep boarding school nearby. Trey's arrival brings the paparazzi and a whole lot of chaos.

"Only the target survives."

A single moment changes everything for Alice. After witnessing a failed abduction of Trey, she's suddenly on the run with a virtual stranger. Trey is handsome and charming, but she's read enough of the tabloids to know he's a bad idea. Without knowing who ordered the kidnapping, the pair is thrust into a twisted race between the truth and survival.

LIGHT HEARTED THRILLER

I mean, it's in the thriller genre, but it's such a fun adventure. The twists were satisfying and the character growth was gratifying. Narrator was great.

Genre-bending YA for fans of teen espionage

I got this Audiobook for free. My opinions are my own.

SUMMARY: A heroine who is well balanced between broken & kick-ass, a seemingly typical troublemaking rich boy who rises above the stereotype, plus strong relationships all around make this an enjoyable listen that falls firmly in my "will re-listen to ocassionally" category.

HIGHLIGHTS: Trey's gentleness / Sandra, the body-guard & Trey's roommate

LOW POINTS: I was ready to scream if I heard the nickname Triple H one more time, thankfully it was dropped eventually. / Her denial of every new development does get a bit old, but the fact that she fully acknowledges the tendency overcomes it.

CONTENTS: Moderate swearing (inc 2 F-wds) / Mild making-out / Moderate Violence (nothing too gory, but includes at least one attack ending in deaths; plus there's a flashback scene of abuse & discussion of other instances of the same) / Characters on the fringes of society who engage in semi + illegal activities -- Also mentioned (most in the past or peripheral characters): issues of mental health; questionable teen behavior, pregnancy, and suicide

NARRATION: Sound Quality = Good / Speed = Good (I listened on my usual 1.25) / Emoting = Good, not too dramatic / Voices = Mildly to moderately distinguished

Good story

This is a very fast paced story and catches your attention very easily. I liked how strong of a person Alice was and the choices she had to make. This was a really well paced thriller that had me hooked. I had a hard time putting it down and didn’t want to have to stop listening at times because I wanted to know what would happen next. I hope this author writes even more books! The narrator did a really goof job with the different characters and their voices.

What an awesome story, captivating from start to finish

I listened to this right after the Blind Barriers trilogy and had some trouble adjusting to this completely different voice but the narrator did a splendid job. And although I love Sarah Puckett, I do love that Sophie Davis chose a different narrator for this one since it’s about another girl. Makes it even more ‘real’.

This is one of those stories you not only gladly give up your sleep for but that just keeps you in this state of mind that is somewhat an adrenaline rush that keeps you from getting remotely tired enough. And also one of those stories that you don’t want to end. It is a standalone within the same world as The Blind Barriers Trilogy, the world of Project Scion. And eventhough it’s absolutely not necessary to have read that trilogy beforehand, I’m glad I did because the epilogue from Alice Anonymous just means a bit more if you know the person introduced at the end of the epilogue. But it’s such a small thing that it is definitely not a necessity. I’m just glad I got the most knowledge possible. There is a doctor that plays a part in both the trilogy as the standalone. You might understand a bit more just how he goes about his work when those scenes play out, although, again, itis not necessary. It’s minor details. If you’re a stickler for catching all the details, read the trilogy first! Although the stories are very different, they’re both so good. I hope to see more of Project Scion in the near future. I know it’s on the authors’ minds but don’t know for sure when there will be more.

If you like The Dollhouse and Nikita, this had some aspects that reminded me of those series.

Fast paced and interesting story

The story picked up pretty quickly, not taking a ton of time to set things up, instead doing that as things moved along. Pretty good misdirection in the beginning opens up a nice mystery at a later point. I was definitely pulled into the story and was investing in how it would play out. The narration was a bit robotic in tone, and I’m not sure if that was intentional, but I found it distracting at times, and it pulled me out of the story, which can be frustrating. But overall I really enjoyed the book, and I liked how it tied into the Blind Barriers trilogy at the end, something I was hoping they would do.

I received this audiobook free in exchange for my honest and fair review.

Great book.

This is a well written thriller. Just reading the blurb I knew this book was for me. What I didn’t know is that this book is a prequel or sequel to the Blind Barriers Trilogy. Someone from that series makes a very brief appearance. Now I’m anxious to find out if there’s a book 2. I loved the characters in this book and the action was great!!
The narrator is okay. I listened to a 1.75 pace. To me she wasn’t able to perform male voices. Very cringeworthy. She sounds nasally and high pitched. Of course it doesn’t bother you as much if you increase the pace. All in all I would recommend the audiobook as it is entertaining.

"Money can't buy you happiness, but it can...

...buy everything else."
Alice, just 17, a runaway orphan, leads a low profile life, living and working with Elsie, the older girl who befriended her when she first came to town. To stay alive, she's done things in the past she's not proud of and knows she must avoid being noticed by the police. So when the store in which she works is attacked, sending her running with the handsome young heir to a security firm fortune, they're on their own - apart from a little help from their friends.

Written mostly in the first person from the perspective of Alice, Alice Anonymous is an easy read, fast paced YA thriller, with an intriguing back plot line even if the action is somewhat predictible. The characters are clearly drawn, the love interest present from the beginning and very supportive friends drive the story onwards. Sadly, the latter part of the book feels more clunky than the main body, losing a lot of the mystery which had made the earlier part so compelling. An opening is left for a sequel. The narration by Jeanie Talbot is very good, clear, well modulated and with credible character voicings. A little slow, but this is easi!y remedied by increasing the playback speed to 1.25.

I was fortunate in being freely gifted with a complimentary copy of this enjoyable book, at my request, by the rights holder via Audiobook Unleashed. Thank you. With it's team of late teenage protagonists, this is a mystery thriller that most young readers would find engrossing. Recommended.
