Her Best Yet - Highly Recommend
The raw power of the first books has been supplanted by clever, more sophisticated verbal gymnastics. I use the word "verbal" because this is a book that is best heard as a performance -- and Ms. Vincent is the perfect match. This is like the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for me, in that I can't really imagine reading it (as opposed to listening to it being performed). The dialogue cascades at you in a wonderful, spontaneous way. (Note the use of the present tense, a tricky bit of business!) I tend to read hard sci-fi, police procedurals and historical biographies. About 5 times a year I stumble on something that compels me to do a review. This is such a book. Don't read it if you can't deal with a lesbian as the lead detective -- do read it (even if you are a older straight male like me) if you are a person who really enjoys a fast-moving, involving mystery with a Manchester/Wales backdrop and an insightful self-awareness that is as enjoyable as it is character-rich. There....an entire paragraph, and not one word about the plot -- which you will just have to read for yourself.

Not in love, but definitely in like!
I'm a huge Cari Hunter fan, but I was expecting more from this book. The murder mystery of the book was fantastic, kept me on the edge of my seat!! I absolutely love the narrator! She has an amazing voice and never fails to schmooze my ears and senses. What I didn't like was the romance piece or severely lack there of one. Romance this was not. It all was fairly awkward and kind of a side note. I found myself wondering how did that happen with no lead up, lack of chemistry, and sort of anti climactic. The story would have been just the same with that bit, which says alot. Other than that, the rest of the book was good and still worth the credit!

I enjoyed Cari Hunter's series a lot more though. As much as I enjoy this narrator, Ms. Vincent, as well, I found the overall monotonous tone of voice she read this story in, somewhat hard to listen to. As before, however, I just love how she is able to do the various dialects/accents/slang. Makes me laugh every time.

This book is exciting from beginning to end. Cari Hunter knows how to write thrillers! I listened to this book non stop to the end. Nicola Victoria Vincent has such a way with European accents. It's like a gift! From the very first moments of this book I felt a sense of anticipation of what was going to happen. Most books are somewhat predictable in the "who done it" arena, but this one keeps you guessing until the end! Also, I don't fluff reviews for anyone or any reason. If it's great I say so. If it's not so great I say that too, just with less exuberance.

Another great book from Cari
'Another great book from Cari.
The plot is fast paced and grabs your attention from the first page.
The characters are believable and real.
As expected from Cari the book is filled with humour and some brilliantly funny observations – the whiteboard and photos and trying to put a USB in a computer had me laughing out loud.
Cari has a unique way of writing, she portrays a story in a no holds barred, no nonsense way.
A thoroughly brilliant enjoyable book.
It would be re-miss of me not to mention the outstanding narration by Nicola Victoria Vincent, it’s almost as if Cari has written this book with Nicola in mind as the narrator'.

Another great plot from Cari Hunter
Another great story from Cari Hunter, I never tire of her books. Also lovely narration as always by Nicola Victoria Vincent, even her welsh accent rang true. Would highly recommend this book, especially if you're into crime novels, it has a good plot and good pacing. Mind Cari does put her characters through the mill!! So expect a little bit of violence, but not too much to detract from the story! I always think of Cari's books as crime novels with a little smidgen of romance thrown in to add to the story and counteract the tension.

I’ve become a big fan of Cari Hunter’s storytelling and writing style. She’s become my favourite crime writer. I also love Nicola Vincent’s perfect narration, so I was eagerly waiting for this to come out on audible.
It lived up to all my hopes! Another properly good story with a real feel of authenticity and lovely touches in the prose. Refreshing free of cliché or plot contrivances and real humour that had me chuckling along with main character. Can’t wait for the next one!

A Real Page Turner
I I have read all of this author's books and I've also got her audible books. what happens when you wake up with no memory and and in a strange country, this country being Wales. this is how to book start and Cari put all the parts together with the help of DS price and various other characters along the way.
The narrator was excellent but sometimes I think she forgot the Story had moved to Manchester si sometimes a character with a broad Manchester accent would turn out Welsh. This did not ruin the story in fact it gave me a little smile. Carry on the good work.
