Publisher's Summary

Murderers, mob bosses, and convicts . . . these guys are not your average neighbors. Unless you live on Alcatraz. It's 1935 and 12-year-old Moose Flanagan and his family have just moved to the infamous island that's home to criminals like notorious escapee Roy Gardner, Machine Gun Kelly, and of course, Al Capone. Now Moose has to try to fit in at his new school, avoid getting caught up in one of the warden's daughter's countless plots, and keep an eye on his sister Natalie, who's not like other kids.

All Moose wants to do is protect Natalie, live up to his parents' expectations, and stay out of trouble. But on Alcatraz, trouble is never very far away.

good story. did not like the swearing

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes. we listened to it on our ways to visit Alcatraz. It was a good introduction. The story was more about his disabled sister than Alcatraz but still good.

What about Kirby Heyborne’s performance did you like?

loved his reading. It sounded like he was really Moose telling the story of his life

Any additional comments?

It had some swearing which i did not think was needed in a children's book.

I LOVE THIS BOOK

I liked this book because I loved all the characters soooooo much especially Natalie and how it represents autism so accurately. I could have done without Piper being in every. Single. Chapter. Also, the such short chapters. But I still love it!
I would recommend this book to readers of Diary of A wimpy kid and the I survived series, or maybe spy camp.
I chose this rating because I love this book so much! The narrator makes everything seem so realistic and I love how he has so much emotion, plus he makes everything 10 times more hilarious! I love the story-it never is ever boring, and it’s always so full of suspense and I never want to stop reading it! Great job Author!

Not a family book

This book was found in a list of good family audiobooks. In my opinion, this book is not a family book. There was content that I feel was dark/depressing for children. It was also boring... we tried to listen but I found myself zoning out because it did not keep my attention. The narrator's voice was very monotone and not engaging for adults much less children. We eventually turned it off and downloaded another book for our trip home.

Loved it!!

I am a 11 year old girl and about to go to school In the fall. This book was great for the reading assignment. It's easy enough to understand but has a mature topic. I suggest this to young readers in there tweens or early teens. I recommend this👍👍!
