A massive solar storm kills billions and wipes out the technological infrastructure, and the few survivors learn that some among them have...changed.
It's six weeks after the shock.
The smoke on the horizon has diminished, and Rachel Wheeler and her two traveling companions head toward the mountains where Rachel's grandfather Franklin has built a survivalist compound.
However, the strange mutated people known as Zapheads seem to be changing from bloodthirsty killers into a force far more menacing. A secret military installation holds the key to rebuilding civilization, but Franklin doesn't trust their intentions.
The Zapheads are adapting to the new world faster than the human survivors, who must fight for their place in a future that may have no room for them.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I really enjoy this series. What makes this series different from a typical zombie apocalypse is the evolution of the "Zapheads". This series operates on many levels. What was one of the most memorable moments of After: The Echo?
The moment that really took this series to another level was the evolution of the "zaphead" zombies. I am anxious to see where this series is going. Very interesting!Which character – as performed by Kevin Clay – was your favorite?
Kevin Clay is seamless in his voice acting. I like the Franklin character, as well as the Mexican. I speak Mexican Spanish, but can not speak English with a Mexican accent. Kevin nails it. I am amazed at how well Kevin can bring these characters to life. Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not to spoil the book, but there is one scene where a survivor is brought into a room full of Zapheads. Is the scene insane or is the survivor crazy? This scene definately took me out of my comfort level. I remember seeing "Night of the Living Dead" many years ago, and being shocked at seeing zombies eating intestines. That shocked the crap out of me. In "After" this scene where one of the survivors is in a room full of screaming "Zapheads" kind of took on that level of shock and disbelief. These kind of scenes are what lifts this book to another level. Fun stuff!Any additional comments?
Disclaimer: This book was offered as a gift in exchange for a honest review. This is second of this "After" series I have "read", as well a a companion novel, called "Bone and Cinder", by Scott Nicholson. When you like what an author writes you tend get into a groove and follow the story lines. This series is a zombie apocalypse story with interesting twists and characters. What makes this different is the evolution of the "zapheads". The characters are believable and relatable. Kevin Clay does a really nice job with his voice characterizations. In a typical novel, the protaganist goes through a series of difficuilties to a climax and resolution of the problem. With the "After" series, you have many characters going through difficulties, but a changing story on many levels. I am hooked! If you like the "Living Dead" TV series, you will like the "After" series. Are Zombies the Next Step in Evolution?
