Publisher's Summary

From New York Times bestselling author Heidi McLaughlin comes a heartfelt story about overcoming great loss and forgiving past sins to find happiness again.

Brooklyn Hewett hasn't set foot in Cape Harbor for fifteen years - not since an accident claimed the love of her life, Austin Woods. Desperate to move forward, Brooklyn has focused on raising her daughter for the past fourteen years. But when the opportunity comes along to renovate the old Driftwood Inn, Brooklyn knows it's time to go home.

But it won't be easy. For one, Austin's best friend, Bowie Holmes, still lives in Cape Harbor. Brooklyn hasn't quite been able to forget him: not since the night they spent together - the same night they both lost Austin. Separated by tragedy and guilt, they're brought together by the Driftwood project. And as they rebuild the inn, they discover they're also rebuilding something else.

Brooklyn's always been desperate to move on, not knowing that she first needs to reconcile past transgressions. She can't forget, but she can forgive - Austin, Bowie, and herself - on her way toward long-awaited happiness.

Contains foul language

They need to put a disclaimer in the description so I don't waste time or money on something I don't want to hear. I let one go in Chapter 6, but by Chapter 10, I was really into the story, but the cussing happened more frequently. That wasn't fair. If I had known ahead of time, I wouldn't have selected it. Can't they make edited versions of these things? I really like the story and I want to know how it ends, but I can't stand reading/listening to foul language. I get enough of it at work.

Terrible narrator

I couldn't get through the first chapter, but I don't think it was the fault of the writer. The narrator voice was so annoying, childish, and depressing that I could not continue to listen. I'll check out the book without narration and read it for myself

Predictable but in a nice setting

Rather predictable story. Why are the characters in romance novels always so beautiful and so ruggedly handsome? Seems average people are not worthy enough to hook up according to romance writers. The narrator is very good and I would have given another star except for all the magnified sounds of her swallowing.

Excellent!!!!

I absolutely lived this book. It was so very heartwarming. Thank you for your brilliance! I kinda understand grandma and why she did what she did. Loss is very hard. But still loved the book!!

a little repetitive

The story was good. However, the book was repetitive. Didn't need to be told the story of Austin's death so many times. I did enjoy the story though.

good story but a little drawn out

the plot to this story was great. I didn't see the change coming with Austin but the outcome with Bowie and Carly was expected. it took a long time to figure out what happened and why, but it was interesting getting there. it just took forever.

Disappointed

I feel this could have been a good story, but it moved SO SLOWLY. I made it to chapter 14 before deciding to quit, after nothing was really happening. Another put off is the cursing. I really don't understand why authors feel the need to be crude and disgusting and foul in their stories, throwing the "f" word around for no reason, and the sexual content such as the one referring to Bowies "hard-on", I mean, give me a break. This is so unnecessary and unexceptable to me. A big thumbs down from me 👎🏻😝

Wow

Brooklyn is one complicated loving woman.
Bowie is one loyal stubborn man. They have a past with a lot of baggage.
Did not see that twist coming. Love how everything turned out.

Great story & Narrator

I really enjoyed the story, predicable yes, but a fun, easy read. I really enjoyed the narrator and thought she did a great job. I’ll definitely look for more books narrated by her. Her swallowing sounds were magnified in spots which was a tad unnerving, but aside from that, no complaints.

Romance at it's best!

After All, has left me feeling all gooey inside and I have a hole where my heart should be! IF you're a lover of Nicolas Sparks, Kristen Ashley or Nora Roberts, THIS is right up your alley!
Karissa Vacker is a new narrator to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. She did a great job!
5 star listen all the way!
