All Max wants is to become a climber and search for his long-lost sister. But citizens aren’t allowed to climb - they aren’t even allowed remotely in the vicinity of the mysterious and magical tower. Vainqueur Knightsbane is your average dragon: A giant, fire-breathing lizard who loves to take naps on his golden hoard, kidnap princesses for fun, and make the life of adventurers miserable. Vainqueur's only pleasure in life is to watch his treasure get bigger, one coin at a time. So when a would-be thief turned unwilling minion tells him about "classes", "levels", and "quests", Vainqueur wonders if maybe, just maybe, he should consider a career change. After all, why bother hunting monsters for free when you can get paid for it?

it was good from the first page to the last and unlike a lot of the other LitRpg's I've read it didn't make the main character seem op from the very start him and the others have to think there way out of different situations and stuff and that was refreshing anyway great book give it a listen

good book!
This was a fun listen. I enjoyed the world building and the set up for book two is pretty solid. lots of questions that need answers! This was definitely a unique take on lit rpg and I found the characters enjoyable. The ending was probably the most memorable part, definitely threw me for a loop!
Really enjoyed Matt Jenkins narration of the story, definitely did a great job with the narration. Not too much in the way of varied voices but who needs it when you absolutely do bang on job despite? look forward to continuing the story through Matt's unique brand of narration! will definitely be buying book 2

Really nice story with an OK narration
So the story is quite simple. MC is trapped in a game (quite similar to Horizon Zero Dawn) and needs to get better gear to improve as there are no level-ups or anything like that. Characters are well done, but nothing too fancy. Overall quite good story.
Now for the narration. This was the first audiobook I listened to, so I'm not sure if some of the practices are common or not. Either way, I really enjoyed that sometimes the narrator modifies his voice according to the situation, that means if the character is an AI or is speaking with a megaphone his voice changes accordingly. What I didn't enjoy so much is that some conversations were hard to follow and sometimes the narration felt quite flat.
However, I do recommend this short story as it was enjoyable and simple.

Different take on LitRPGs
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next book. The premise is interesting, as is the "leveling" system. I only docked it one star due to its length (an 8 hour minimum is my typical cutoff for a book).

Very fun GameLit title from a new author.
Whether this audiobook should be properly classed as an isekai or a VRMMO, I am not quite sure, but I can say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice mix of drama and action, interesting bits of steampunk tossed in almost as an aftertought
At first I found the narrator's voice a bit annoying, but it quickly grew upon me.
The only issue I have with this title is that it was not truly a complete story line, but rather ended abruptly with a great many plot lines still up in the air.
Other than that reservation, I recommend this for anyone who is a fan of GameLit, LitRPG, Isekai or even Steampunk.
Please note that I received a review copy of this audiobook at my request with the understanding that I write a review. All opinions are my own.

A solid intro to a new Litrpg
~Disclaimer: I received a free audiobook copy of this book. ~
The narrator does a decent job and I didn’t hate any of the voices he used (although some of the female voices were a bit annoying).
One of the reasons I requested an audiobook of this book was litrpg with a male protagonist and no harems. I get tired of that particular wish fulfillment in litrpgs. Alex and Casey aren’t super fleshed out in this book, but because it is short and it has a lot of world-building I think that is to be expected. I did like both Alex and Casey and the other characters seem like they have potential.
I think this is a solid introduction to the world of Aether. I wish it wasn’t so short, but I suppose this way we can expect to get more releases quicker than if the author aimed for 300 pages per book. I did end up following the author's page on Amazon because I am intrigued enough to keep following along (plus I pay for kindle unlimited and I might as well find more authors who use it).

Good, but short.
Took a couple of chapters to get going, but by 3 or 4 I was properly invested! Enjoyable charterers, some interesting world building and good narration,
My biggest complaint is that it is so very short! It feels like it could much longer without outstaying its welcome.

great first book
Nice intro into an intersting litrpg/portal fantasy story, the characters are fleshed out decently and the "game elements" are nicely justified.
Well voiced and no annoying noises or such, mid-heavy english accent but good pronounciation.
