There we learn the addict's true condition: Like guests at a banquet thrown by "the woman Folly", he is already in the grave (Proverbs 9:13-18). Can we not escape our addictions? If we're willing to follow Jesus, the author says that we have "immense hope: hope in God's forgiving grace, hope in God's love that is faithful even when we are not, and hope that God can give power so that we are no longer mastered by the addiction". True to Gods word
I was blessed by this book! I have struggle with addiction for many years even as a believer in Jesus. I have found support and help in CR but this book has help frame why we need the whole body of Christ and it pinpoints the true reason our sinful hearts choose habitual sin over our Lord. Thank you Ed and all who made this book happen!

Helpful for Spiritual Battle
I heard John Piper reference this book years ago and have been meaning to read since then. I waited far too long to finally get through it. This book is a treasure trove for anyone who wants to wage war against sin and temptation. If you are struggling with indwelling sin or you are trying to help someone overcome sin, please prayerfully read this book.
