What should have been an easy job turns into a fight for his life because it’s not just bullets and hit squads he’s got to worry about, but his heart. How can one fragile female mean so much? It’s almost too much for a rational-minded cyborg to understand. When the choice is given, escape or let her die, he lets his heart decide, and that's when things begin to explode—literally. 

Well, the AI’s southern accent was new

The series’s pivot to aliens was an odd choice. What’s left of the cyborg story was merely the same story we saw in the previous books.

Meanwhile, what started as dual narration became single narration and now AI narration. It’s weird that with AI, there’s even less distinction between most of the character voices; all female characters sounded the same and all male characters except the lead, Adam, sounded the same. As for Adam, he had a twangy Southern accent that made it seem like Adam was a gangly teen instead of a muscular cyborg.

I hate Virtual Voice with a passion now!

I've read the Kindle book for this and even used the text-to-speech option. This was no better than the text-to-speech. I didn't realize that it was Virtual Voice when I purchased it.
The Virtual Voice actually downgraded my overall experience of the book. I liked it better in book form. I would even rate the text-to-speech as I can control the narrator's voice. The accent for this "guy" was awful.
From now on, I will skip any narration done by anything but a human.
