Publisher's Summary

Tonya Craft, a Georgia kindergarten teacher and loving mother of two, never expected a knock on her door to change her life forever. But in May 2008, false accusations of child molestation turned her world upside down. The trial that followed dragged her reputation through the mud and lent nationwide notoriety to her name. Tonya's life spiraled into a witch-trial nightmare in which she was deemed guilty before her innocence could be determined by a jury. Her children were taken away without even a good-bye, and her own daughter was forced to take the stand against her in a courtroom. The situation seemed hopeless, and Tonya was shell-shocked and heartbroken. But that didn't keep her from finding the strength to fight.

Accused is about more than Tonya's shocking trial and fight for justice. It is the story of a mother's extraordinary love, the faith that sees her through it all, and the forgiveness that sets her free.

Critic Reviews

" Accused, the true story of a Tonya Craft's fight against the criminal justice system, is much more than a blow by blow account of a woman facing a prosecutorial steamroller." (Robert Whitlow, author of The Confession)

Heartwrenching Story

The story of the witch hunt Tonya Craft endured is heartbreaking and shocking. The narrator brings a liveliness to the story's many characters that pulls you deeper in, especially in the courtroom scenes. I have to say, though, that while I sympathized with Tonya's ordeal throughout I didn't like her a lot by the end. Throughout the book, she peppers in phrases like (I'm paraphrasing here) "It was important that the jury know I'm not a perfect person," yet outside of two small failings she takes credit for, she presents herself mostly as the only morally upright person in the room, a person whose every action is altruistic. I really find that hard to buy. Telling people you're not perfect yet behaving as if you think you are would lend credence to ONE of the prosecution's allegations: that Tonya is a bit narcissistic. Still, narcissist does not remotely equal child molester, and this woman is so completely and clearly innocent it's ridiculous that grown adults could have ever put her and the children in their care through all this.

Amazing

What an amazing, inspirational and empowering book. I think every attorney should listen to it along with judges and all members of law enforcement. So many of us need a reminder that we should not jade ourselves to what we think we know about people accused of crimes. This book is the perfect example of why we should never forget the constitutional protections that ALL Americans are entitled too. Thank you, Tonya, for sharing your story.

Eyeopener

If you could sum up Accused in three words, what would they be?

Best account of the miss use of the court system that I have ever heard. More people that have gone through the same types of being accused falsely should get on Tonya's bandwagon. I knew the end of the story and still am amazed how badly it could have turned out for a classy lady.

What did you like best about this story?

The complete theme of truth and forgiveness.

What about Hillary Huber’s performance did you like?

She made me feel that she was Tonya Craft going through the entire process.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Tonya Crafts total acts of forgiveness for those who had hurt her the most any woman can be hurt.

Any additional comments?

Great lesson in moving forward through forgiveness.

sickened by small town small mindedness

Here is a woman who is a great teacher, a great friend and great person... small town bias against her. These sick individuals, who were upset were her (an adult) used their children and her own daughter, against her. An eye opening story, one that I hope NO ONE else ever has to go through. Whether friend or enemy, no one deserves the kind of treatment given to Tonya. Having never met her, after hearing this story, I would trust her with my own ten year old daughter, and that says a lot to me. #JusticeForTonya

Stayed Awake All Night!!

I've listened to probably at least a hundred memoirs and this book was just a non-stop listen for me. The raw honesty and hearing the author's voice bring her ideal to a non-stop roller coaster story of persistence.

a terrifying true story

If you could sum up Accused in three words, what would they be?

Could be anyone!

What did you like best about this story?

Well told, held my interest, insightful and inspiring. God helped her when she prayed.

What about Hillary Huber’s performance did you like?

Just the right tone, not shrill. Emphatic stress when appropriate.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The entire ordeal is moving. There is relief from the tension as she describes other events.

Any additional comments?

This book would be a good gift for someone who is seeking faith in God. The woman's faith got her through this nightmare.
This could happen to anyone.

This story ENRAGED me

I haven't even finished this book yet but I feel compelled to leave a review because my blood is boiling!! This woman deserves a billion dollars for what those b*****s did to her, as well as what the so-called judge, detectives and prosecution did to her. The judge should have been disbarred for blatant bias, I just can not believe the evil in people. This is why I spend the majority of my time with dogs! They can not falsely accuse you over some horrible act because they have a grudge against you for something absolutely ridiculous!

That aside, the narration is excellent. Hillary Huber is one of my favs. I can listen to her all day, every day! I hope Tonya has a good life now...and these people are lucky she is so forgiving and isn't like someone like me. I would be out for revenge to the thousandth degree. I hope they get all that should be coming to them...you know what they say about karma...
