Publisher's Summary

Your life begins or ends at the Academy.

For Remi St. James, It started with the blackouts. Then the vivid nightmares. That’s nothing compared to waking up naked, alone in a forest with no recollection of how she got there.

Scary as hell, but what she discovers is far worse.

Remi was changing into something more - something supernatural.

After coming to terms with what she is, Remi starts school at the Gladwell Academy of Shifters, an exclusive and secretive college designed to awaken those with extraordinary abilities.

Remi meets Laith Brighton, an impossibly hot, mountain-lion shifter who's also an irresistible jerk. Then there's the cliques of werewolves and bears. Plenty of mean girls with mind powers. Everything a regular college has - just a bit weirder. But what she discovers is far darker than anyone could imagine.

Can she maintain her sanity in a place that is incredibly insane?

Fans of the Fallen Academy and Supernatural Academy series will love this snarky paranormal fantasy filled with shifters and romance.

Hogwarts meets Professor X

Academy of Shifters is a great 'coming into my powers' book focused on Shifter, mostly werewolves, instead of the normal witch/wizard story. The school has a great Hogwarts / Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters feel without being a ripoff of either of them. I'm looking forward to book 2.

Brittany Goodwin does an amazing reading of the book and has a voice range to make each character unique and recognizable. I can't say enough good about her narration

First Semester Werewolves 101

Reviewer: Teresa Fallen Angel

Summary:
Remi’s life in the foster system was difficult. There were always strange things happening like Remi waking up outside undressed with no knowledge about how she got there leaving others to wonder about her. Remi is finally going to college and she has a chance to leave the past behind that is until everything spins out of control. Remi finds herself taken to a new school unlike any she could imagine where shifters and magic are not only accepted, but taught. Remi is faced with the knowledge that her blackouts and dreams are more than they seem. Even with all the problems of dealing with a world she never expected, things at Gladwell may not be exactly what they seem. Remi feels alone as she struggles with her new world, teenage bullies, and romantic feelings on top of learning how to navigate her new paranormal world.

This is a wonderful beginning to a new YA paranormal series that was brought to life in audio-book format.

Good book!

I really enjoyed the world that the author created within this book. There are so many academy books out there right now but this one didn't disappoint. The main female character is great. I love her snarky, sarcastic attitude! The witty banter between the two main characters kept me laughing. The romance is there in small doses with slow build which is one of the reasons I really enjoyed the book. There is also some intrigue in wondering who and what this secret society is that these kids are being culled for. The whole book had a steady build. I was not ready for it to end. The narrator is amazing! Her voices are spot on!

Engaging story

So thankful this narrator's voice did not have that whiny undertone that a lot of the other YA paranormal narrators do! Her narration took the story to a better level - great use of a self-deprecating tone to make the main female character so relatable, and her pace and pauses in conversational text set it apart easily from internal mental conversations. The story itself was entertaining, with a not-quite-but-close-to-it cliffhanger ending. One thing that bothered me, though, was the main character's 2-day denial of reality, convinced she was dreaming - people don't sleep in their own dreams, so not very plausible. But it is easily moved past, so overall, a very enjoyable read.

Enjoyable Listen!

I really enjoyed this book, it was a short listen at 5.5 hours (compared to 12+ hours of other audible books) and went quickly. The narrator does a great job, she's very pleasant to listen to and her enthusiasm really lends to the main character, Remy's, likeability. There is action, drama, suspense and of course the angsty love of college kids. There was quite the plot twist at the end that I really didn't see coming, and that rarely happens. The story kept me interested the entire time, and I'm ready for book 2!

Fun listen!

This book was a fun listen. I thought it was a bit slow at the beginning but once the action sprang up it whipped by quickly - Ending on a cliffhanger I’m eager for book 2. The narrator was pleasant to listen to and did a good job with differentiating the characters.

Thoroughly Entertaining!

What an brilliant hilarious heroine who speaks her mind. The chemistry between Remi and Laith sizzles. The narrator does an amazing job of bringing this book to life. I can't wait to listen to the next in the series.

Sizzle

This started off weird and I often felt very sorry for the heroine. I did like her wit and how she interacted with everyone, especially Laith! Yum. They really have some sizzle together. The story leads you to lots of questions. It has a lot of suspense and mystery. Was an interesting plot line with the twin and everything. I really enjoyed listening to the narrator tell the tale.

good story

I liked the story and the idea behind it. what put me of was the voice / interpretation of Leigh or however you spell it. Pfff really wanted to fall for him and I think reading the book, I would have imagined him differently. but the presenter's interpretation of him lacks everything in the universe and it's such a pity cause he has so much potential in being a great character.

Shifters, Magic, & Deception

Really enjoyed listening. Remi has had a hard life in and out of foster homes. She is about to start college. She was on her way to freshman orientation when she gets drawn in a different direction. That split second decision changed her life as she knew it. She gets taken to a shifter academy and told she is a wolf. She starts having issues actually shifting into her wolf. Deception and betrayal, add a dash of possible romance makes for a very enjoyable book. Just watch out for the ending, it really leaves you wanting more.

Hooked from the beginning

Narration was good.

I was hooked from the beginning when we are introduced to the school and kept hooked as we find out what goes on there.

looking forward to the next in the series.

would of been five stars if it was longer or the series was bundled together as it makes it too costly for me to buy with a credit each book.

Interesting

Academy of Shifters involves a young lady with werewolf abilities. The storyline includes a love interest, deceit, and betrayal. The characters are likable and believable and the storyline is entertaining. Looking forward to the next story!! The narrator did a good job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene.
