Series gets better with more B movie goodness

Now that book 1 set the stage with Daniel Hunt as Jason Bourne in the post apocalypse future, book 2 starts building connection with the other members from the super soldier Wolfpack from Daniel’s past. The first half of this book goes a little Seven Samurai as Daniel helps defend an Earth town along with other mercenary-gone-good fighters. Then there’s several shades of Johnny Mnemonic as Daniel goes inside a memory to uncover some clues.

Yep, this series takes lots a characters, plots, and tropes from various B movies and other series. But, bought on sale, I’m down for quick, pulpy, B movie action. I’m okay with the predictable moments where Daniel has to decide “what are you really fighting for?” or someone in the heat of battle screams “kill them all!” This was a fun, action packed popcorn listen.

Daniel is still quite the Larry Stu, with X his internal A.I., his Wolverine healing abilities, and enhanced strength and night vision. Definitely gives this an almost comic vibe. And the epilogue sends the series in a completely new direction that only amps this into pulp fiction over gritty military or dystopian sci-fi.

If I want a gritty post- apocalypse series, I’ll stick with Hell Divers (great series through book 5, good after that). If I need more military in my sci-fi, some of the Galaxy’s Edge books will do. But, this series scratches my itch for entertaining, if a bit simple and shallow, good vs. evil, guns N ammo sci-fi.

This narrator though!

Love love love Jay’s voice for this book. He does an amazing job and just fits the character so well. I think it’s the reason I get SO into these books!

Outstanding!

Another fantastic futuristic installment, yet somehow the issues seem inherently rooted i n present day.
Once again excellently skilled narration. A more fleshed out story with more truths finally unveiled.

The Battle for Mankind begins!

the narrator is well spoken. The story, well written. I was able to imagine myself in the "character's" shoes making similar decisions. I found it easy & captivating to listen to this book & I always looked forward to my time for listening...

Love this story

I love me some space opera with badass main characters which puts this series at the top of my list. Nonstop action along with great characters make this a gem. Lucky the next book is finished because I'm going right into it. Very highly recommended.

Epic!

“You don’t have to let your past define who you are today.”
The science, Absolution is chock full of imaginative technological exploits. The characters are pure types. They are also powerful. What really made this book great was the marvelous style of Yanez. His pacing and scene cutting is...Sharp! Daniel’s past is revealed bit by bit but not all of it, with painful revelations. He comes to terms with them and decides what his present is going to be about. There are epic scenes, like out of a western movie, ferocious battles..face-to-face with the worst this broken society has to offer. With surprising and unexpected turn of events, some incognitas solved..the twists were very disturbing, and the ending..Wow! A very good, fast moving installment, with touching moments. Onto Fury, next in line!
