The Price of Gold

A wagon train winding through the remote reaches of the Rocky Mountain high country can attract plenty of scavengers - some of them human - like Vic Bedell and his gang of cutthroats. All he wants is the women, who can be traded for gold mine supplies...or used for whatever else he has in mind. But he didn't count on Preacher leading that train.

The Color of Blood

Bedell's first mistake is leaving the First Mountain Man for dead. His second mistake is underestimating Preacher's strength...and cunning. And Preacher needs all he can get to lead 150 helpless ladies out of captivity...through 1500 miles of unforgiving territory filled with hostile Indians - and the deadliest threat of all: Bedell and his wild avengers....

PJG

I really enjoyed this, my second of the Preacher series. I enjoy following along the routes using google maps. Having been near or around some of the locations makes these books even more interesting. I will be selecting another audiobook in the series, and one narrated by J. Rodney Turner.
The Preacher is that rarest of men, which can only be forged by such circumstances as those few who blazed trails of the western frontier.

Another great ride

I really enjoy this series, the only drawback is that the narators voice is so low that it is difficult to hear clearly at times when I am trying to listen while driving. Other than that it is great all around.

Dark but good

Dark and not for the meek or faint of heart but neither was the settling of this country.

Great Story

I enjoy this series. Preacher, the protagonist is a mountain man taking a group of over 150 women
West, 1500 miles over treacherous terrain to meet their future husbands. There is some Indians that are hostile. Even worst than that is gangs of white men that are thieves who want to take the women and use, abuse and then sell these women. They didn’t anticipate Preacher. He was leading these ladies and he was a forced to be reckoned with. Especially after they had been ambushed, and these men killed Preacher’s beloved horse. Once he got the ladies to their destination,he went out his criminals who took and killed not only his friends, but horse. Great book and excellent narration, don’t miss it!

Quite Entertaining but Dark Story

I'd give this 5 stars across the board if it was not for the 100+ women and girls get raped in this book. Probably as many bad guys killed in the story as well. Preacher became the first gunfighter in the last book and now sets that legend into fame among all Americans who read about him in stories and newspapers; as well as most Indians.

Great beginning, very funny. It's a hard ride to the west and often a hard read at times with all the violent destruction and killing. Preacher even kills a man on purpose with his bare hands. Now that was a fight to behold!

The last 2 hours are impossible not to pause or put down. You will find yourself so captivated that you will stop whatever you are doing just so you can listen to the last 2 hours non-stop. Preacher ends up heading east to the big cities to kill a big bad guy / head of the gang. Then to see his parents. The ending will leave tears in your eyes.

One funny scene Preacher lets a young bad guy go instead of killing him. Preacher sneaks up on this guard, kidnaps him and takes him an hour away from the bad camp full of rapists, thieves, thugs, then asks him have you ever heard of Preacher? The boy says "Yes, I've read in newspapers that he's a mean vicious killer, lives with savages so long that he has become one, killed over 1,000 men, sleeps in a cave with a mountain lion, he fights grizzly bears and wins." Boy says do you know Preacher. Preacher says I am Preacher. The boy fainted.

Preacher often does this in books to 1) save young bad guys hoping they turn good and 2) interrogate him to get more info on the bad guys. Then sets him free.

The finest compliment a mountain man can give is that "he is / was a man to ride the river with."

Lots of interesting mountain man wisdom in this book. Preacher buries some of his best friends and his horse, who was probably his best friend.

Loved this story of Preacher

Great story of the mountain man Preacher. Wrapped in everyone, including the women of the era, into the treks made in the westward movement of white peoples. Many assholes, many good.
