  • Making of a Fake Guru: Honest Opinion on Abhinav Arora’s Spiritual Persona (Hindi Ep.)
    Nov 12 2024

In this episode of Anshism, we dive deep into the life and story of Abhinav Arora, the 10-year-old Delhi-based spiritual orator hailed by many as India’s youngest “Bal Sant” (Child Saint). With nearly a million followers on Instagram and high-profile appearances on national media, Abhinav has inspired many with his devotion to Hindu deities like Shri Ram and Shri Krishna. But a recent exposé by the YouTube channel Only Desi has cast a shadow of doubt over his narrative.

Join us as we dissect the revelations made by Only Desi, whose creator, Ankit, suggests that Abhinav’s spiritual journey might be more a product of parental coaching than divine inspiration. Through a montage of video clips, Ankit raises questions about the consistency in Abhinav’s responses across interviews, suggesting that his carefully curated persona may be a crafted image directed by his father, Tarun Raj Arora.

Is Abhinav Arora a genuine spiritual prodigy, or is he being used as a mouthpiece in a meticulously constructed public image? Listen in as we explore this story, the nature of early-age spirituality, and the ethical boundaries of parental influence in the digital age. • North Korean Defector On Surviving Trafficking, Starvation, Executions and Escaping Twice
    Nov 3 2024

In this powerful and deeply moving episode, we have the honor of sitting down with Ji Hyun Park, a North Korean defector, activist, and an inspiring voice for human rights. Ji Hyun’s story is unlike anything you’ve heard before—an extraordinary tale of survival, courage, and hope. Born and raised under the strict and oppressive regime of North Korea, Ji Hyun faced unimaginable hardships, from living in fear of the regime to enduring years of starvation and life in labor camps. Her first attempt to escape North Korea led to being captured and repatriated, only to endure even greater suffering upon her return.

But Ji Hyun’s story doesn’t end there. Against all odds, she found the strength to escape a second time, embarking on a dangerous journey to freedom that brought her to China and eventually the UK, where she now advocates for the rights of North Korean defectors. In this interview, she shares her heart-wrenching experiences of escaping one of the most secretive and repressive countries in the world, the emotional toll of leaving loved ones behind, and her life now as a voice for those still trapped in North Korea.

This conversation sheds light on the hidden realities of life under Kim Jong-un’s regime, including the widespread famine, the brutal labor camps, and the intense propaganda that controls the minds and lives of its citizens. Ji Hyun’s incredible resilience and the bravery she demonstrated by fleeing twice is a testament to the indomitable human spirit and the unyielding pursuit of freedom. Her story forces us to rethink the privileges we often take for granted, like the ability to speak freely, live without fear, and pursue a future of our own choosing.

Join us as Ji Hyun Park shares her gripping journey, how she rebuilt her life after escape, and her ongoing mission to help others who are trying to flee North Korea. This is more than just a story of survival—it’s a reminder of the strength of the human spirit and the value of the freedom.

  • Why Is India So Unsafe for Women? | The Reality of Rape Culture | Dr. Madhumita Pandey
    Sep 19 2024

Dr. Madhumita Pandey is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology and Internationalisation Lead in the Department of Law and Criminology at Sheffield Hallam University, where she also serves as the Course Leader for the Applied Human Rights/LLM Programme.

On the *ANSHISM* podcast, Dr. Madhumita Pandey engages in an open and thought-provoking discussion on the deeply entrenched elements of rape culture that have been normalised in society. In the first part of the conversation, she addresses harmful behaviours that often begin in school environments, highlighting how even women can perpetuate slut-shaming. Dr. Pandey also examines the broader safety concerns women face, exposing the unsettling reality of how pervasive feelings of insecurity are for many.

In the second part, she critiques the effectiveness of the death penalty as a solution for rapists, arguing that such measures fail to address the root causes of sexual violence. She explains that rape is not merely driven by lust but is often linked to deeper issues of power, control, and societal conditioning. Dr. Pandey advocates for the rehabilitation of convicted rapists, stressing that meaningful change requires offenders to understand and acknowledge the gravity of their actions, rather than being subjected to punitive measures alone.

Her groundbreaking doctoral research, which focused on gender socialization and perceptions of culpability among convicted violent offenders in South Asia’s largest prison, gained international attention as one of the first studies in India to examine the perspectives of convicted rapists.

For her work, she was awarded the prestigious Ruskin Medal for ‘outstanding research with the most impact.’
