Publisher's Summary

The long-awaited memoir of her tumultuous year in office, A Woman First: First Woman is an intimate first-person account of the public and private lives of Selina Meyer, America's first woman president. Known and beloved throughout the world as a vocal and fearless advocate for adult literacy, fighting AIDS, our military families, and as a stalwart champion of the oppressed, especially the long-suffering people of Tibet, President Meyer is considered one of the world's most notable people. In her own words, she reveals the innermost workings of the world's most powerful office, sharing previous secret details along with her own personal feelings about the historic events of her time.

In A Woman First: First Woman, President Selina Meyer tells the story of her times the way that only she could. Listeners will gain new insights not only into Meyer herself, but also the mechanics of governing and the many colorful personalities in Meyer's orbit, including world leaders and her devoted cadre of allies and aides, many of them already familiar to the American people.

Go. Get it. Now.

I read the book about a week ago... and I wasn’t sure if listening to the audiobook would be worth it... oh was I wrong. Let me tell you, you in for a treat!!! 6 hours well spent, laughed the entire time, “Selina” and “Gary” do a spectacular job!!! I can’t get enough of my Veep.
P.S. I was considering to leave the one star review so Selina can have someone write a book about her childhood...but just couldn’t help myself.

Selina & Gary's comedy hour!

Simply amazing. It's 6 additional & delightful hours of Veep that are hilarious, interesting & filled with Gary chiming in. I finished it in 1 day & i'm gonna start listening to it again tomorrow. I demand a prologue to this book! Selina Meyer: The Early Years!

Love Selina, and Gary!

As a fan of Veep, it was a joy to hear Salina (Julia Louise Dreyfuss) and Gary (Tony Hale) narrate.
For fans and lovers of comedy. I laughed so hard on a rainy afternoon. Thank you Julia and Tony!

Highly Recommended

Thank You, President Meyer!

The book is an incredible account of the life of President Selina Meyer from our very own President Selina Meyer! From learning more about her family history to her times leaving the House for the Senate, it is a great story of our first female president. She even leaves the door open to another run — by not saying she won’t run for office again.

More Effective than a Croissant

As a Veep super fan, this will undoubtedly get 5 stars from me. JLD and Tony Hale’s chemistry is unparalleled. FOUR MORE YEARS!

Why I returned, A Woman First

Reeling from Veep and not wanting it to end I used a precious credit for this book and I was happy until Gary started reading as Selina. That totally turned me off and I could not get back the good humor though I did like it when Gary interrupted Selina with his little blurps oops gurgles and so forth. Anyway this is why points were lost...….with all due love and respect. B.

Hilarious!

This book was an absolute must-listen for "Veep" fans! My only complaint is that the 6 hours passed much too quickly! The book perfectly captured Selina's voice and read in her "actual" voice (the brilliant Julia Louis-Dreyfus), it was a joy of a listen. Tony Hale did not disappoint either-poor Gary!

Don’t Do It!!!

Veep is hilarious, and the reading is great, but the story of this book is an incoherent, steaming pile of doggy doo. That makes sense for the show, but as an audiobook, it’s not funny enough to listen to for more than a few minutes. It’s not really a comedic bio so much as one long run-on sentence that hardly relates to the show and doesn’t develop any of the Veep characters in any recognizable way.

Tedious and without humor

Unlike The television show Veep, this book is tedious and without humor. I was not able to complete the book as I felt it was robbing me of the chance to listen to something, anything, more worthwhile. A big disappointment for this Veep fan.

Hilarious look into the life of Selina Meyer

Selina and Gary just bounce off each other in this great book. It is a great insight into the world of Selina Meyer and the entire Veep world.

Not enough politics!

Ironic considering Selena says she was forced to overindex on her time in politics…! Still a good listen though.

I love veep. This is unrecognisable as Selina and Gary. It’s just not funny! What a shame

Funny, Funny

If you love VEEP, you’ll enjoy this.
Selina Mayer, sociopath, narcissist, former President of the USA, recalls her life in a scrupulously edited autobiography.

Fantastic performances.
I loved this!

Very enjoyable

Fans of Veep will love this audiobook. It is performed so perfectly by Selina and Gary.

I actually can’t imagine it working as a regular book, because almost all the comedy comes in the delivery.

Hilarious satire for veep lovers

This audio book was just as funny as an episode of VEEP. Julia Louis Dreyfus and Tony Hale are so clever and funny I was crying. If you lived VEEP and miss it, I highly recommend this “book”.

Even Julia LD can't save this awkward fan fiction

As a big Veep fan I practically leapt out of my seat when I came across this - but sadly after six hours I'm mostly disappointed with it. While Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tony Hale give some really good performances across the book and there're some occasional great lines, anyone hoping for a post-presidential rundown expanding on the people and events of Veep will come away wanting. Almost the entirety of the book is profoundly over the top new content sketching out Selina's childhood and pre-political life. There's almost no commentary on any of the major issues of the show or her team, it's real broad-strokes comedy about how dysfunctional the aristocratic 1% are and what a simultaneously monsterous and pathetic woman she was in college. Towards the end of the book, there're a few jokes about how it skips over most of what her audience is really interested in, which, hit too close to home. Far from the worst six hours you'll ever spend, but I was disappointed in the direction they took this one.

Blah blah blah

I love Veep but this was overall drivel. It started strong but in the end I think the reason I loved Veep so much was Selena was toned down by the great supporting characters.

Great complement to the show

Well, what a “delicious” human Selina Meyer is. Wonderfully narrated even if a little droll in parts. Adds lots of back story. Lots of LOL moments. Well done team. Thanks for all the joy over the years.
