Another YA story I just couldn’t enjoy fully.
(Listened to and reviewed by Nadia Rausa, not Micah). The premise of this book was very interesting, but the writing and characters felt far too YA for me (not to say there aren’t good YA books—I just don’t tend to get into them much). The main character wasn’t super likable, her love interest felt like a stand-in/fill-in character (which is unfortunate since I was excited about them being non-binary), and the antagonist was extremely whiny and not nearly brutal enough for my liking. I’d say if you like folktale-style stories (which I do), but mixed with YA style stories (which I don’t), and have an extra credit, it might be worth it for you. Otherwise, maybe try to get it from your library and save your money (my library didn’t have it in yet, unfortunately).
