Story
Once I was released from prison, I thought that all of the heartache was over. I was back with my family, and I assumed that the nightmare had come to an end. Little did I know, the nightmare had actually just begun. Everybody around me was keeping secrets that would send me right back to a dark place, a place way worse than the prison that I had just emerged from. This time of my life was supposed to be my "happily ever after the bullshit." In fact, I was so happy that I didn't see the deceit that was happening right under my nose.

Story
Apparently, I had been naive the entire time that I was with King. Who knew that he had been keeping such a secret from me? Just my luck, as I hid from him to gather my thoughts and deal with the pain, yet another crushing blow to my happiness was revealed. I then realized that I could no longer live for King; it was time to live for Kennedy. Little did I know, Jada was suffering the same heartbreak that I was. Dolla had torn her heart into two. My girl was miserable, but she didn’t run as I did; she was trying her best to inflict the same pain on Dolla as he had on her.

Jada and Dolla were the ideal couple. Through thick and thin, Jada was a ride-or-die companion for her street hustla, Dolla. She fought everyone and everything off - foes, obstacles, and side chicks. Jada was a straight shooter and a force to be reckoned with. She loved her man, family, and crew with all of her might...and then her world came tumbling down. Being the typical man, Dolla ruined their relationship with one unprotected act. Now, Dolla is a single father of twins, and Jada is alone, after nearly 10 years of faithfully standing by Dolla’s side.

True never guessed that life would be this hard. Being only 25 years old, she should have been being wild, reckless, and having fun, not fighting the hardest battle of her life, alongside a husband who no longer loved her. After their divorce, True wanted to be free and enjoy every day. Falling in love was not in the plan. She most definitely hadn't foreseen falling in love with an arrogant, womanizing hustler like Coop. Yet, she did. However, as soon as True tells him all her truth, he'll revert back to that unbearable goon that wreaked havoc on the streets of Chicago.

Publisher's Summary
"If angels wear Vicki's and the devil wears Prada, I guess I was a taste of heaven & hell back then, because King had completely turned daddy's little angel into a hell of a rider...."
My name is Kennedy Desiree Carter. I met the love of my life, Damion "King" Carter, five years ago. Back then, you would not have been able to convince me of the way that he would change my life, in good ways and bad. I was a good girl; on my way to college with a high GPA and big dreams of becoming a child psychologist. Yet, as soon as I met King, I also dreamed of being the best rider that any street nigga had ever seen. I was a good girl with a bad boy fetish, and King was the ultimate bad boy that came to love me in ways that I had never felt before.
They say ride or die is the highest level of loyalty that you will find in a person, and King had found that in me; even though it eventually meant my own suffering. Yet, the suffering never fazed me because I knew that we loved each other. Some would say too much, and I couldn't argue with that because loving him sent me to a place that I thought I would never be, all because he put his trust in the wrong people.
Every dope boy needs to realize that sometimes the realest person on his team is his girl, and King found that out the hard way.

Voice is everything
I began to listen to the book and the voice did not match the story. I appeared as someone who was not ethnic telling a story they can not relate to. I bought the whole series however I can not listen to it so I am going to return all of them. Unfortunate, I am sure the story is good however the voice is everything for an audio book. It has to be believable.

Irritating lead female voice over
I love the books by Jessica N. Watkins. However, I was really aggravated by the female’s voice reading this book. My perception was that this is an urban story so I was shocked to hear European sound of the female reading. It was hard to hear her voice saying words like the N word. It affected the authenticity of the story for me. If Miranda Jay will be reading the other books (the sequels), I will not be listening. It was fragmented hearing the male voice and then switching to her voice...I struggled through the novel but I would have enjoyed more reading the book myself. I love your books Jessica N. Watkins!!

Not a fan of female voices
Great story line but I just don’t care for the voices of Kennedy, Siren or Jada. They sound forced, like they’re trying to be hard. Especially when they say nigga...need a more ethnic voice for these roles. Otherwise great book!

Kennedy and King
This book started off good. Kennedy took those years in prison for her man. King 👑 seem to really love 💘 Kennedy. That little kala is a spoiled little 👧girl. Now for Merch and Siren, I wanted Merch to forgive Siren, until book two. Jada truly loved her man Dolla and the crew. She is very loyal. I hope she is happy in the other books. As far as the narrator Miranda, just no. Girl you do not have the right voice for this series. Overall the book is excellent😊

Great story horrible narration
Miranda Jay killed the entire audible book, and I don't mean that in a good way. Her voice didn't fit the characters and did the book a disservice. Patrick Stevens was ok. I only completed it bc I already read the book. Sorry to say, if she is narrating the series I will not purchase 😢 them on audible. Jacobi Diem & Cee Scott as narrators wld hv taken this story to the next level.
