nice intro, but unnecessary addition to audible

the performance was top quality. the introduction to the text makes this the best version of "a tale of two cities" on audible.

HOWEVER

we did not need another "a tale of two cities" on audible. it's not even one of the five best Dickens novels and there are so many versions of this novel, and Dickens in general, on Audible already.

OF ALL THE GREAT WORK PENGUIN CLASSICS has copyright access to, especially their excellent quality translations of works that are either not on Audible or only available as weak public domain translations, it is surprising that this is where they are investing their audiobook classics resources.

Meh

As a classic it's worth a read. That said, I was not very drawn in. and the narrator made some characters painful to listen to.

It's good, but I just can't

We all know that Charles Dickens is one of the Greats. A Tale of Two Cities is a classic. The narration was great. So I'm taking responsibility for the fact that I can't listen to these kinds of works anymore, The plot is slow to develop, and it's necessary. The angst...I just can't do that. There is enough drama in my life without angst. So, if you can put yourself in the mindset of a period when authors were paid by the word, you will love it. It is truly a great work.

The voice acting was soothing to listen to, and the book was amazing. Charles Dickens work was well-represented.

I’ve always wanted to read and never had before. Loved listening on audible. I laughed. I cried. Would definitely recommend everyone read this wonderful tale of love and war.

Julian Rhind-Tutt is a five star reader. So many voices available but this version was a good choice.

Beautifully read classic Dickens.

Loved it as a child, cried at the film version as a young woman, marvelled at the complexity of the writing in middle age, and now a septuagenarian, love it again! So vivid, so raw, what brutality, compassion, degradation and love, it’s marvellous, but then Dickens is and remains powerfully extraordinary.

An excellent final act tacked onto a long drawn out book that spends more time setting up the characters than having them do anything interesting.
