Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction,” eating little and weighing herself five times a day. She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income.

We've seen awkward and adorable Q&As with his mom, weight-loss center drama, love life details, and the all-important haircut reveal. The first story Selma Blair Beitner ever heard about herself is that she was a mean, mean baby. With her mouth pulled in a perpetual snarl and a head so furry it had to be rubbed to make way for her forehead, Selma spent years living up to her terrible reputation: biting her sisters, lying spontaneously, getting drunk from Passover wine at the age of seven, and behaving dramatically so that she would be the center of attention. In a memoir that is as wildly funny as it is emotionally shattering, Blair tells the captivating story of growing up and finding her truth.

Story
Jenny Mollen is a writer and actress living in New York. Until two years ago, her life was exciting, sexy, a little eccentric, and 100 percent impulsive. She had a husband who embraced her crazy - who understood her need to occasionally stalk around the house in his ex-girlfriend's old beach caftans and to invite their drug dealer to Passover seder (so he wouldn't feel like they were using him only for drugs). Then they had their son, Sid, and overnight Jenny was forced to grow up: to be responsible, to brush her hair, to listen to her voice mail.

Publisher's summary
What if falling in love meant almost losing everything?
Where does a moderately popular internet star who never leaves her house look for potential suitors? Online. Tinder, Bumble, Match.com, OkCupid - I tried them all. My 31-year-old self clicked and swiped her little heart out, leading to more dates than I could count, and more disappointment than I was prepared for.
Maybe you can relate. Maybe you know all too well the perils of modern dating. But let’s say, eventually, you meet someone. You think to yourself, “Wow, they’re perfect! Take me off the market, put a ring on it, knock me up, the whole enchilada, because they are ‘the one.’” Let’s also say that they “feel the same way” about you. Your life starts to make sense! All the pain, heartbreak, and frustration from past failed relationships was worth it. Slow clap.
That’s how I felt about Milos. He was from Europe, a doctor, wealthy, athletic. He had an accent and a dog. Milos was textbook marriage material. For him it was “love at first sight”, but for me, it was “anxiety on every date”. Something was telling me to run - but for two years, the only running I did was straight into his arms.
If only I would have listened. This isn’t a love story. It’s my story of survival.

Entertaining and insightful!
I loved that this story was told as if we were living it with Brittani. Telling it in this way makes it easy for people who haven’t been in abusive relationships to understand how so many women find themselves falling for these people and stuck in the abusive cycle. I was also conned by my first love, not to the this extreme but women need to be more aware to protect themselves! This is an entertaining story and good audiobook!

beautiful work
I've watched Brittani on YouTube for a long time and seeing her grow as a person and then take this journey as a mother. you'd never know all of this was happening to her. she has such incredible grace and poise in every thing she's done and this book is no exception. it makes the reality of domestic violence a lot more relatable and it shows that it doesn't have a template or a set of rules. It's awful but it's in how you handle it. she's a gem and this book is beautiful. It's honest and a reflection of her as a person. overall beautiful work.

I feel for her, but the narration was awful.
I have utmost respect for a survivor coming forward with their story. Blessings to her and to her son for the calm they now have after such insanity and calamity.
That being said the valley-girl like inflections were taxing, the timeworn cliches exhausting and the syntax lackluster. I get it, a youtuber, not a writer. However, one would expect words conveyed through a camera to be delivered similarly to that through a recording microphone. Comparable to other reviews I've read, the naivete was unbearable. Not lacking empathy for her situation, but astonished by how devoid she was of common sense.
I'm flattered for her to see all the positive reviews, though I'm left aghast to know that very few who have read this know what decent reading is.

Heart break. Raw. Real. A love story to her son!
I’ve been watching Brittani since I was 13 and remember when this was happening to her real time. I knew something was up and knew she would tell it when the time was right. Everyone must read this! It’s raw and from the heart. She is so real and was able to over come such a heart ache. You see her love she has for her son and what she had to do to protect him at all cost! Just simply amazing!

Seemed like a 15 year old girl wrote this
Based on the authors videos concerning the book I was expecting a drastically different story than the one written. While I give the author immense credit for going through this situation I do not belive it was written well. The narration was very cringeworthy there was no need to fake the accents that was just...bad. It made the whole book hard to get through in all honesty. Overall while I do not think domestic violence is right at all this book was not a very good portrayal of overcoming a very intense and difficult situation. It seemed cheesy and touched too lightly on the very serious topics it was trying to get across. If I could give 0 stars I would have.

Could have been better..
Okay, so I don’t like giving negative reviews especially on a story like this one. It really, really sucks that she has gone through all of this and no one deserves to be treated this way. I, myself, am a victim of abuse and it’s unreal the tactics these people use to have control over someone. BUT I feel like this book could have been written much better and there was no emotion in her voice which made it super hard to continue, but I just really wanted to hear her story. I also can’t get over how naive people can be even at her age. I was very young when I experienced the abuse which is to be expected for someone at my age (being naive), but in your 30’s taking advice from a “doctor” telling you NOT to use birth control and that the “pull out” method is safe? Seriously.... I just wish this story was written better and sounded like it was being told by a grown adult, not a 16 year old...

Great story, badly narrated
This is a great story and I really respect the authors courage to share with such honesty. My only complaint is that her tone of voice and inflection makes it difficult to listen to at times. I would have preferred to have just read this one.

Great book iffy narration
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t in love with Brittani’s narration of the audio book. It was as if she was reading her own story for the first time. The different voices were great but the enthusiasm and personality were missing from the narration. As far as the story, I think it was a pretty crazy and scary story. I feel for Brittani having to go through such turmoil but unfortunately it’s how we learn our most valuable lessons. Love is so powerful. And it’s so crazy how from the outside I could predict the lies as she was narrating because I too have been in a similar situation and know what to look for. When you’re in the thick of it though it’s so hard to see past what you want and rely on what you feel.
As far as Milosh goes, it’s sad that people find more joy in manipulating folks than they do in finding love within themselves. Karma does not discriminate and with his lies being as amateur as they are he will indeed get caught.

Definitely “sucky”
It’s really unfortunate that she narrated this entire story on her own and still sounded uninterested. I found myself annoyed with her for being almost childlike when talking about sex and her naivety when it came to MANY perfectly normal adult topics. Overall, yes, the dude was a scumbag and yes I’m glad her and the baby are safe and happy but the story wasn’t put together well. I feel a little disappointed.

The constant upticks in the narrator's voice were irritating at times and distracted from the story. It is her story and she should be the one to tell it I just wish she received some coaching first.

Just whoa...
I started listening this with no clue as to what had happened. I used to watch Brittani's YouTube videos but stopped around the time she had Rex because I too, had my daughter. To come across her book and hear just how a relationship that looked so magical in videos had been so horrific - I'm speechless. Books don't usually make me cry but I had tears rolling down my cheek during this, especially the ending.

Not my usual read but enjoyed it.
Very engaging lady. A modern love story with a bitter twist. Really felt like she was telling me her story over coffee.

A little boring until the last 3 chapters
Brittany is very passionate over this story. But it's not as interesting as she portrays it to be. She's not a likeable protagonist, I sense an underlying tone of righteousness the way she expresses how she was a virgin until the age of 32. She often used language such as "I'm not like those other girls" and "I made sure my shorts weren't too slutty". Bragging how she impatiently waited for him to text her as she had to follow the "dating rules". It was as if she wrote the book ten years ago. Also she claimed she married him as "Our relationship had to endure what most people would never have to go through". What a presumptuous and pretentious line! She has no idea what the average person has to go through.

Simply astonishing!
For the first 12 chapters, it is a bit dull. You question why Brittani mentions all these little moments that seem to have no relevance. But as soon as you get to chapter 13, everything takes a turn. Everything adds up, this is the craziest story I have ever read and the fact that it is a true story is absolutely heart wrenching. If like me, you are on the first half of the book and are getting a bit bored, PLEASE continue to read until the end. Everything adds up and makes sense. A fantastic read written by an inspirational survivor!

Interesting story, odd writing
As somehow who listens to books quite frequently, the difference in writing here (Very personal, she has her own asides rather than keeping to the story) was kind of jarring. However, it kept me hooked and helped me sympathise with Britanni, without knowing who she was (Never seen her YouTube channel before). Would recommend but be cautious of the personal writing

amateur
I feel Brittani should have played to her strengths and turned her story into a video of some sort instead, as this book has an interesting story poorly executed. An unbelievably naive and often narcissistic narrator, dropping sexist remarks, amateur writing, and also making some interesting choices in her vocal delivery. Her marketing campaign has clearly been very effective however I just don't think the book is worth spending money on reading or listening to.

Don’t bother
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this wasn’t it. I disliked the voices she put on, the words did not paint pictures in my mind. Yes it’s not a good thing to happen to someone but her monotone voice was just not working for me. It could have been so much better.

LOVED! Really hit home 💔
I do agree, Brittani isn’t the person you want to change your Navman voice to, or have as a voice alarm in the morning.
Would I have wanted this story spoken by anyone else? NO, this story is hard to hear and inspires courageousness & to embrace the hardships of life and also has found a way to add a few laughs in.
This is Brittani’s personal story and would NOT have tugged on my heart strings as strongly as it did, had Brittani not been the one to tell it.
I love this book, I love the message it sends, I love that Brittani is normal and relatable.
10/10

A Sucky Love Story... sucked me in.
This is an amazing story and it really provided an amazing cautionary tale. My only note is that it was read quite slowly but once I upped the listening speed the story carried well. It provided great entertainment for my weekend but also left me with some thinking material.

Great story, unfortunate narration
She sounds a bit like a teenager talking and the sentences sound like statement after statement rather than a connected story, but overall the story was really interesting. I could never really ignore the bad narration, but am still happy that I listened to the book. It would be worth being re-recorded using somebody else, sorry Brittani.

Interesting sorry but terrible narrator
I enjoyed the story but Brittani’s narration sounded the claws going down a chalk board. She ends every sentence, raising her voice slightly to make it sound like she is asking question. Book was written like she was a 12 year old girl writing in her diary. Very cliche choices of words.

Story
Jenny Mollen is an actress and writer living in Los Angeles. She is also a wife, married to a famous guy (which is annoying only because he gets free shit and she doesn't). She doesn't want much from life. Just to be loved - by everybody: her parents, her dogs, her ex-boyfriends, her ex-boyfriends' dogs, her husband, her husband's ex-girlfriends, her husband's ex-girlfriend's new boyfriends, etc.
