An unique and intense tale following Elim Garak as he attempts to stitch the ravaged society of Cardassia back together.

For nearly a decade Garak has longed for just one thing—to go home. Exiled on a space station, surrounded by aliens who loathe and distrust him, going back to Cardassia has been Garak's one dream. Now, finally, he is home. But home is a world whose landscape is filled with death and destruction. Desperation and dust are constant companions and luxury is a glass of clean water and a warm place to sleep.

Ironically, it is a letter from one of the aliens on that space station, Dr. Julian Bashir, that inspires Garak to look at the fabric of his life. Elim Garak has been a student, a gardener, a spy, an exile, a tailor, even a liberator. It is a life that was charted by the forces of Cardassian society with very little understanding of the person, and even less compassion.

But it is the tailor that understands who Elim Garak was, and what he could be. It is the tailor who sees the ruined fabric of Cardassia, and who knows how to bring this ravaged society back together. This is strange, because a tailor is the one thing Garak never wanted to be. But it is the tailor whom both Cardassia and Elim Garak need. It is the tailor who can put the pieces together, who can take a stitch in time.

I cannot understand how this book is so good. From what I read this was written by the actor as kind of a journal to get him into character???? So good I wish he wrote more.

How is this so good.

Really well worth the time to listen. It was a great joy to me being a fan of Deep Space Nine to hear it in the voice of my favorite character from the series. Well done and thank you Mr. Robinson.

Well done.

Fantastic book, a true delight listen.
It is inspiring and thought provoking, has a deepness rarely found.

I don't think that one must have seen Deep Space 9 to enjoy this book, however it helps.
But can also be a good starting point for DS9.

This book is easily one of the best sci-fi books of all times.

Any fan of DS9 will absolutely love this. Robinson gives an incredible performance and brings Garak more to life than ever before. I would be thrilled if he ever wrote a sequel.

Hands down the best Star Trek book I've ever read.

What a great gift to die hard fans of Deep Space Nine and Garak epically written and read by the man himself!

I only wished there was more of it. I could listen to his voice forever.

If you, like me, did not get enough plain, simple Garak from the show, you simply must get this audio book.

Great Gift to Fans of DS9 & Our Favorite Tailor

Felt like ender’s game at first, then a bit more heartfelt. Great way to reconnect with DS9

As good as they say

One of my favorite characters on DS9, this story will fill in a lot about one of the most amazing characters in the Trek universe. This is a must read.

I’ve been meaning to read this for so long, Garak being a top 3 all-time Star Trek character for me, primarily of course thanks to Andrew Robinson’s portrayal and obvious knowledge/embodiment of his character. So I was beyond excited to learn he’d written his own book about the character and then later even more elated to learn he’d be doing the Audiobook. Just as you could imagine, it’s exactly like Garak is reading me this story himself (and his various other voices and impressions are also excellent, and really take you there).

I only wish there were more, that he’d written dozens dozens more. About Garak, and about other Trek. He just understands the universe, and he took me deeper into Cardassian culture with ease.

Simply outstanding. I will certainly listen to this many times throughout my life, in rotation with my regular rewatches of my favorite Star Trek series, TOS, DS9, and VOY. DS9 is a yet unmatched achievement in Trek - a staggeringly good seasons’-long narrative arc with the greatest cast of fully fleshed out and fascinating characters, each of whom could carry a series on their own. I’ll always love TOS best for Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, for the world created there, complex storytelling, a beautiful show in spite of its flaws, and ways that it is dated (most of which are charming or fun rather than distracting). But DS9 is arguably the most cohesive, highest quality, and best all-around, and that Garak tends to be the favorite character on that show really says something in that tremendous ensemble!!

Hopefully we do get more yet - I’ve also enjoyed the podcast and other ways he has continued to engage with the character. If you’re a fan, you don’t need convincing to buy the book, I only review it because I can’t help but air some of this glowing appreciation I’m left with after finishing my first of many listens. <3

Better than I even could have imagined!

I really can't put into words how incredible this story is. It offers a profound look into Cardassia and the person that is Elim Garak... and to be written and voiced by the very actor that portrayed the aforementioned character is a gift Star Trek fans such as myself will undoubtedly cherish forever.
What is my favorite Trek story, you ask?
This one; without question.

I never wanted this to end.
