Burton Leon Reynolds Jr. (February 11, 1936-September 6, 2018) was an American actor who became well known in the tv series Gunsmoke, Hawk and Dan August, before breaking out as a movie star in the 1970s and 80s, starting with his role as Lewis Medlock in Deliverance (1972). He later returned to television, in the sitcom Evening Shade (1990-1994), which won him a Golden Globe Award and Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. In 1997, Reynolds gained renewed critical attention for his performance in the movie Boogie Nights, earning him the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor and a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award nomination.
