Every person has that one thing they’re known for, and it doesn’t matter what you do, that one thing—whether good or bad—follows you around like a bloodhound for the rest of your life. For me it’s a story I wrote when I was 15. Forever more I will be known as the Reece the Rogue Pirate girl, instead of Josie Peterson. Why couldn’t I be known for all the cute children’s stories I’ve written about my family’s pumpkin patch?
Tragically, the torrid story I wrote as a teen was based on a real person, Reece Cavanaugh. And guess what? He grew up to be a pirate—okay, lawyer. Same thing. To make matters worse, the man is representing my ex-fiancé, who wants to steal my treasure, a.k.a. my engagement ring. If that wasn’t the icing on the cake, Reece has an adorable daughter who happens to be my new student. That’s right, I must now have actual conversations with him after avoiding him for half my life, even by hiding behind banana displays when needed.
But the more I get to know Reece—the real version, not the imaginary one who ravishes me on sandy beaches—I can’t help but wish we could roll around in the sand together. There’s a problem, though: The school I work for frowns upon relationships between parents and teachers. And it’s pumpkin season, which means all my free time is spent on the family farm. But when he kisses me, I can’t help wanting to break all the rules and get tangled up in the barn. The burning question is, am I brave enough to make my story a reality, or will it be another bad ending?

On one hand it's a lighthearted story that was sweet and funny, with a very swoony romance. On the other hand, it has a lot of depth and poignancy as it deals with childhood bullying and its aftermath, and a woman who finally finds herself.
I thought the narrator was excellent. She brought a lot of feeling and emotion to the story, and to each character.
What I loved:
Chemistry between MCs
Reece's daughter, Andi
Josie and Jenna's conversations
Cozy fall vibes
Cider and pumpkin doughnuts
Tractor rides
Reject the lies—tell yourself truths
Letting go of the past
Apologies
Closed door
Cute proposal

A Pumpkin And A Patch is a perfect fall read that will make you want to wrap up in a cozy blanket with a cup of cocoa, or head out to your nearest pumpkin patch. It might even help you extend grace and compassion to your younger self. It did for me.
All the feels with this one!

I really connected with Josie and her being affected by childhood bullying because I'm 43 and still dealing with the aftermath old wounds. I could so relate to her trauma and how she couldn't seem to get over words spoken over her in her past. She allowed them to shape her vision of herself and keep her from seeing just how wonderful she was. I'm glad she had Reece and her cousin to remind her just how special and talented she was at every chance they got. You need people around you who will help you see your worth. Such a great book with a deeper meaning of self-healing and love 💚.
The narrator was just icing on the cake as she embodied Josie and her quirkiness to perfection.
