Publisher's Summary

His scandals were right on track until she derailed everything.

As the successful owner of multiple railroad lines, Diana Barton is all too accustomed to fending off suitors seeking to stake their claim on her wealth. In order to keep the wolves at bay, Diana has contrived the perfect plan: appeal to the most notorious rake in London, the Baron Lord Bryant, to ruin her reputation and scare off the worst of the time wasters. The ruse will be no hardship - she’s secretly been fascinated by the man for years.

Lord Bryant is well aware of his questionable reputation. Indeed, he has cultivated the image carefully, and the last thing he wants is a wife. When he’s approached by the younger sister of a business associate, he tells her in no uncertain terms that he cannot help. However, when he sees for himself what she is up against, Bryant grudgingly offers his assistance. Faced with his most complicated entanglement yet, Bryant is firm in his conditions - and Diana knows that to get romantically involved with Bryant would spell certain heartbreak. But as the counterfeit couple grows ever closer, the line between truth and lies becomes blurred, threatening both Lord Bryant’s well-laid plans and the future of Diana’s railroad business.

A True Regency Romance

Clean, light, regency. This story is yummy! With well developed characters, witty dialogue, and light drama, makes this a GREAT read for relaxing, traveling, or the beach. I thoroughly enjoyed this author, and narrator. Highly recommend, especially if you like clean romances.

Loved it

I had heard so many good things about this book and it lived up to them. I was in an audiobook slump, so decided to try one I would probably like. I did!

Swoony hero who is a scoundrel, but not really. A heroine who is smart. While it has a more contemporary feel with a woman (GASP!) running a business, I think it’s a fantastic read. It’ll definitely be in my re-listen queue.

The narration was seamless and added to the story rather than detracted. She was not noticeable and that’s a compliment. I was able to just be drawn into the story and enjoy it.

Clean, sweet regency romance

I had read the second book in this series, A proper charade” soe time ago when I stumbled across this one. I wish I had gone back and reread it before I read thsi one, although it is really not necessary. I enjoy the humor this author brings to her novels. I do think she bends the “rules” of the regency romance society a bit, and as another reviewer said, she doesn’t take into consideration the likely consequences that would have befallen a woman during regency society. That being said, I genuinely enjoyed the story anyway. I think I liked the characters and the humor most of all in this novel. I definitely recommend it for a relaxing pleasant read.

Amazing!

One of the cutest books I have ever read. The characters are so fun an witty. For a clean romance there is plenty of spark and fire between them. I'm still not a big fan of the narrator but she was much better this book.

Far fetched

This wasn’t my favorite. The plot was so far fetched and contrived that it made it hard to get into the story for me. Diana can’t get her work done because she is being bothered by too many suitors. She can’t be rude to them because she needs their votes in parliament to get the contacts for her railroad line. Asking the reader to buy into the idea that the simplest solution to being bothered by so many suitors would be to let society think she was “ruined” by Everton is pretty weak sauce. The obvious plot hole is that those same suitors wouldn’t be likely to vote for her in parliament if they think she is of low morals and has been ruined. It just doesn’t make any sense.
The characters were ok but pretty one dimensional.
The narrator did a good job except that she sounded like an American trying to do a British accent. The accent sounded very fake which also made the whole story less believable.
Anyway, it was a “meh” for me.

Enjoyed it

I enjoyed this unique story and appreciated the humor and clean romance. Both characters were very likable and easy to root for. I hope this author writes more. Some of the boring, repetitive internal thoughts needed to be sped through, but that's, unfortunately, typical of this genre. I don't know if it's used for filler, but I do wish it weren't employed so often. However, it's the price to pay for these historical romances, and this one was interesting enough to simply put it on 1.5 speed through those parts in order to get back to the flow of the story.

Clean regency romance

I love this author! She tells a good story without all the graphic scenes, which are unrealistic for that era. It helps that the narrator is really good too. I was so happy to hear that Lord Bryant got his own story. It did not disappoint!!
