Publisher's summary

Anxious to be married, Henrietta and Clive push forward with their wedding plans, despite their family differences, made worse now by Oldrich Exley’s attempts to control the Von Harmons. When the long-awaited wedding day arrives, there is more unfolding than just Clive and Henrietta’s vows of love.

Stanley and Elsie’s relationship is sorely tested by the presence of the dashing Lieutenant Harrison Barnes-Smith and by Henrietta’s friend Rose's situation that grows increasingly dark and confused as time goes on.

As Clive and Henrietta begin their honeymoon at Castle Linley, the Howards’ ancestral estate in England, they encounter a whole new host of characters, including the eccentric Lord and Lady Linley and Clive’s mysterious cousin Wallace.

When a man is murdered in the village on the night of a house party at the castle, Wallace comes under suspicion, and Clive and Henrietta are reluctantly drawn into the case, despite Clive’s anxiety at involving his new bride and Henrietta’s distracting news from home.

Delicately attempting to work together for the first time, Clive and Henrietta set out to prove Wallace’s innocence, and as they do so, they uncover some rather shocking truths that will shake the Linley name and estate forever.

This third book in the Henrietta and Inspector Howard series provides a delightful romp through the English countryside and back.

Beautifully written and immersive

A Promise Given is the third novel in the award winning historical romance Henrietta and Inspector Howard series by Michelle Cox.

The moment that we’ve all been waiting for is upon us. Our two love birds are finally getting married and they are taking a trip, as their honeymoon, to the old country. After the transatlantic passage, they arrive at their family’s estate in the United Kingdom, but there awaits an unpleasant surprise. A trusted family member is accused of a heinous crime and both Henrietta and Clive must unravel the mystery.

This is the third audiobook that I listen to in as much as many months from this series and I can say with hand on heart that I absolutely adore these characters and care for their well-being. Written beautifully and with care, the Henrietta and Inspector Howard series is getting better and better with every new installment. I can’t wait to step back into mid 1930s Chicago sometime next month and find out how some of my all-time favorite characters are doing, especially after the twist ending this book delivered.

Award-winning narrator and series veteran, the talented Jane Entwistle reprieves her role as the go-to voice for historical romance with a touch of mystery. She delivers another excellent performance, infusing the story with emotion and bringing all the characters to life with passion. I can’t think of anyone better suited to perform these cozy mysteries.

With fall making way for winter, A Promise Given could be the best listening choice for those long nights when you just want to forget about the moody weather and about this pandemic that has turned our world upside down.

Brilliant!

I LOVED this book! Cannot get enough of Clive and Henrietta, their crime-solving forays and lovely moments together! They are my favorite crime solving duo and I'm in love with them both! Start this series, beginning to end (or ongoing); it does not disappoint! Seeing Henrietta in another country and helping Clive solve a case overseas (London, *sigh* if only I could have tea at Harrod's right now!)

Tuck into some scones and clotted cream and enjoy the jazz age, mystery, and a dynamic duo of crime solvers! Nick and Nora, move over!

Michelle Cox is an excellent author and Jane Entwistle does a great job of narrating the series. I love, love, love every second of these books and cannot get enough! Worth the Audible credits, or Kindle cost -- every penny! And no, I wasn't put up to saying this by anyone! Just can't get enough of this extraordinary series!
