Great book

I was hesitant when the story first started but the story sucked me in pretty quickly.

An epic read for any fantasy fan

The story was well realized, with great beats and prose. I thoroughly enjoyed the character work and world-building. Yep, 9/10 for me, the only thing that doesn’t make it perfect, was there was a little slowness in the pacing in the 2/3 of the book, but besides that, amazing read!

Slow start but wonderful finish

I read a few reviews before purchasing this audiobook and I almost didn’t buy it because of those reviews. I’m certainly glad I took a chance on this one! Some reviewers stated that this book couldn’t even be saved by the astounding Michael Kramer. They said the book was written badly. Those people were either 1- Wrong or 2- not familiar with epic fantasy novels or 3- didn’t listen to the entire book. I say this because the book was fantastic. Yes the background lore and world building took some time, but what do you expect from a 35+ hour long audiobook. If you want a story to unfold properly and for everyone to understand what the heck is going on in the book then these things need to be explained and take a little time.

What I’m getting at is if you like Robert Jordan books, Brandon Sanderson books and types of series like those that that have written then I would most definitely buy this audiobook and give it a try. Once you get through the initial world building and character backgrounds the story envelopes you and you will have a hard time pausing long enough to give your order to the drive thru attendant.

bit of a slow start, but after the first few chapters I really enjoyed this one.

A Spectacular Tale!

I expected this book to be good. I did not expect it to be THIS good! I listened to the audiobook, and it felt like I was listening to a parallel book in Sanderson's Stormlight Archives. Not because of any plot rip-offs, but because of the style, pacing, and just the overall feel, the way it played in my head. Each plot thread was woven methodically to create a masterpiece of story, and the worldbuilding was done with great finesse. I could feel and see the world, the scenes as they unfolded. The magic system is less formulaic than Sanderson, not a particularly hard system, but it was executed perfectly. If you've ever read R.A. Salvatore, it will seem close to that, which honestly, was so well devised that it seemed like this was the way it was supposed to be. Prince Kaescis Midivar, and Cornar felt the most real to me right from the beginning and their motivations made sense all the way through. Iltar grew on me as well and by the end was one of my favorites. The slow reveal of detail through the opening line in each chapter provided a sense of mystery and wonder to the story, again not unlike Sanderson or Jordan. I love stories with lots of lore! Being read by Michael Kramer only added to the Sanderson/Jordan feel. His narration was PERFECT. Thank you for writing this story!

Good but could have been more

While I really enjoyed this book and the world/story, it could have used more female pov chapters.

A stalker's love letter

I really wanted to write a full and detailed review for this book, but the amount of similarities I saw between The Wheel of Time and the Stormlight Archive is just too much. I really feel like this is someone who read those series and pulled the magic system, plot, names, and character names straight from them. The story is still fun and you can enjoy it, but it is hard to overlook the blatant mimicry bordering on copyright infringement of Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson's work. If you like those series you'll either enjoy this book because it's familiar or you'll hate it because it's too familiar.

Michael Kramer is awesome as always.

Listened into the night and early morning!

Interestingly, I listened to almost half of this book before I realized that there was one with a zero that came before it, so I went back and listened to, the first one and then came back and re-listened to and finished this one. If it hadn’t been as good as it was, I probably would not have restarted this one, but it was so interesting and the narration was very good.
Also good job brothers! Now that is so interesting and exciting to see that two brothers have the same desire to delve into fantasy.
I must say, though that the third novel is terribly short and new, as far as I can tell, characters! So far, I’m wondering if it belongs to the other two? Well, we shall see. I’m going to finish it, but wondering why it wasn’t left to be the beginning of a new long book? 🥹

great epic

this was worth the credit. it started a little slow but what a finnish. the characters where a little hard to learn but once I got it really helped. I actually went back and relisted to parts to better understand.

Didn’t know what to expect

This story starts off griping and continued clear to the end. Great start to the series. Can’t wait to see where this journey takes me!!
