When a young woman is found brutally murdered in her own apartment with an intricate pattern of lines carved into her face, Copenhagen police detectives Jeppe Korner and Anette Werner are assigned to the case. Soon, they establish a link between the victim, Julie Stender, and her landlady, Esther de Laurenti, who’s a bit too fond of drink and the host of raucous dinner parties with her artist friends. Esther also turns out to be a budding novelist - and when Julie turns up as a murder victim in the unfinished mystery she’s writing, the link between fiction and real life grows.

Erin Wade’s best yet. With more twists than a moonshine run in the Kentucky hills, Two Ways to Die is a cliff hanger you’ll think about long after you finish the last chapter. You’ll fall in love with Java Jarvis and Kat Lace as they scorch the chapters with their desire for one another. Another number one best seller for Erin. Java Jarvis is like no heroine you ever met. The kind of woman every girl wants to meet at least once in her lifetime. She’s every woman’s dream and every criminal’s nightmare. One of the hottest lesbian novels of the year.

Just two years ago, the media turned Detective John Spader into a hero. He'd caught a twisted serial killer terrorizing Massachusetts, and the "Jack of Spades," as the media dubbed Spader, was born. But when the murderer walked free on a technicality - free to kill again - the public turned on Spader. Now a new serial killer is on the loose. Al's a wild card. Leaping off buildings and running through fire is just another day on the job. However, the more time Cynthia spends with Al, the more she falls for his daredevil ways. Their attraction is mutual, but he thwarts her advances at every turn. He’s the strong, reserved type who operates by the force's code of conduct - and his own.
Falling for her security detail catches Cynthia off guard. She's interested in his past but she has hers. Its a past that indicted her with loss after loss. But when unsolved murders begin happening close to home, Al stops at nothing to protect her. In turn, vindication is her reward, except it comes with severe consequences.

Cynthia and Al
I did not care for this book. It sounded like the paragraphs all ran together. Very unusual book that I had a hard time following.
Holly Holt did a good job with the narration although the male voices sounded a bit strange. Although this was a short book, there was a lot of death in it. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This one gave me the shivers!
Detective Cynthia Jones has loved and lost, tragically. When Officer Al Sanchez was assigned to her protection unit, Cynthia tried to not get close to him. But, there was just something about Al. This story is short, complex, filled with mystery and a dash of the paranormal. It made me laugh, it stunned me, it made me listen a second time, and then it brought me to tears. It’s that deep.

I listened to this on Audible. This isn't my usual genre, but I'm reading/ listening so much that I'm skipping around genres just to change it up. This was pretty short. It took me a minute to get used the narrator's male voices, but it was okay. It took a turn I honestly didn't expect. Had a bit of a surprise in it
