Publisher's summary

Exploring a pitching career that began with a complete-game victory over Hall of Famer Don Drysdale in 1964 and ended when he could no longer control his pitches, this book details the life of Pittsburgh Pirates great Steve Blass. This insider's view of the humorous and bizarre journey of a World Series champion pitcher turned color commentator will delight Pirates and baseball fans alike. Recounting his first years in the Major Leagues and his battle with the baffling condition that would ultimately bear his own name, Steve Blass tells the story of his life on and off the field with a poignant, dazzling wit and shares the life of a baseball player who had the prime of his career cut short.

A Pirate Fan for Life!

Absolutely an amazing story of a man who had every right to give up and quit, but refused to let "the thing" destroy him. A must read for every baseball fan!

Fan for Life

Full disclosure; Steve Blass is my all time favorite Pittsburgh Pirate. That being said, ole number 28 really shows up with his best stuff here, As a narrator, he’s dealin’. This is about Life, struggles, heartbreak, overcoming, respect, reverence, comedy, love, loyalty and joy. i could actually go on for at least an hour. So treat yourself this seven plus hours of stories, proverbs, and anecdotes, from a true baseball living legend. And you also will find yourself recommending this one.

My Hall of Famer

I enjoyed this book. I watched Steve on Pirates games for the past decades and always enjoyed his stories and humor. I think he should be in the MLB Hall of Fame as a broadcaster. Fifty years with one team should be honored.
