Story
Marianne has a life others dream of. A beautiful townhouse on the best street in the neighbourhood. Three bright children who are her pride and joy. Sometimes her past still hurts: losing her mother early, growing up in foster care. But her husband, Simon, is always there. A successful surgeon, he’s the envy of every woman they’ve ever met. Flowers, gifts, trips to France: nothing is too good for his family. Then Simon says another woman’s name. The way he lingers on it, Caroline, gives Marianne a shudder of suspicion, but she knows it’s nothing - she can’t entertain this flash of paranoia.

Every day Iona, a larger-than-life magazine advice columnist, travels the ten stops from Hampton Court to Waterloo Station by train, accompanied by her dog, Lulu. Every day she sees the same people, whom she knows only by nickname: Impossibly-Pretty-Constant-Reader and Terribly-Lonely-Teenager. Of course, they never speak. Seasoned commuters never do. Then one morning, the man she calls Smart-But-Sexist-Manspreader chokes on a grape right in front of her. He’d have died were it not for the timely intervention of Sanjay, a nurse, who gives him the Heimlich maneuver.

Publisher's Summary
Jenny and Mark have been together since they were at school. Now they are getting a divorce - largely, it would appear, because it is easier than answering difficult questions. (For example, why has it taken them 15 years to get married?) Only Jenny and Mark are determined that their carefully planned separation will lead to the world's first truly amicable divorce. The house will be sold, the profits divided, leaving each enough to place a deposit on a new flat. They'll divide up their possessions without any argument; each eager to show that he/she was the most reasonable party. They'll still socialize with all their friends. They'd even go out occasionally, just as good friends do.
But Jenny and Mark's friends and family are not so happy about their plans for a 'perfect divorce'. They find their loyalties divided, and something as simple as dinner plans are now complicated and messy. People say that divorce can be painless if there are no children involved. But at least children grow up, get over it and get on with their own lives. Some friends never do.

Absolutely hilarious.
I'm an American but I love British wit and this book is full of it. The author has written very well and the narrator does a very good job expressing the characters.
The idea that one person can cause shakeups in all of her relationships by either disclosing or not disclosing certain information is really believable and unbelievable at the same time.
This was a very enjoyable listen.

Hilarious
I got this book on a whim but now it's one of my favorites. The authors sense of humor is wonderful. Women 35 plus probably would enjoy it the most in my opinion. The narrator Rachel Atkins was a perfect choice, she brought life to the characters and used her voice to make the context of laughable words even funnier.
