Publisher's Summary

In the fourth book of the Wall Street Journal bestselling series, FBI agent Mercy Kilpatrick must unlock the mystery of a mass murder, and the secrets of its silent witness…

For Mercy Kilpatrick, returning to rural Oregon has meant coming to terms with her roots. Raised as a prepper, Mercy is now relying on her survivalist instincts to defend her town from the people the law can’t reach. But this time, an investigation calling up a dark past for her and police chief Truman Daly may be hitting too close to home.

A rainstorm has uncovered the remains of five people - a reprise of the distinctive slaughter of two families twenty years ago. Except the convicted killer is in prison. Is this the case of a sick copycat, or is the wrong man behind bars? One person might have the answer. The lone survivor of the decades-old crimes has returned to town still claiming that she can’t remember a thing about the night she was left for dead. As the search for the truth becomes more dangerous, Mercy fears that the traumatized woman may not have buried her memories at all. She might be keeping them a secret. And there’s a price to be paid for revealing them.

Great procedural!

Wow! This sure is a thrilling book. This is book #4 in the series. The can each be read/listened to as stand alone books but I would suggest listening to them in the order they were written. There are developing relationships between characters that are continuous through each new book.
This story kicks right off with heavy rain uncovering five skulls with injuries consistent with murders 20 years ago. Two entire families had been found murdered with similar injuries but one little girl lived. The problem is that killer is already locked up. This case also differs in that there's a family of five missing, five skulls found but one is an Asian make, there was no one Asian in the family. When Mercy interviews the convicted man he points out that the surviving girl, now a woman moves around a lot and death seems to follow where ever she goes.
There is a secondary plot going on simultaneously. This one deals with sovereign citizens. These people have decided they are not US citizens and don't have to pay taxes or abide by the law. Eagle Rock is a strange community to begin with. Mercy herself comes from a family of preppers, these are people preparing for devastating times who are prepared with food , generators and what ever else they may need for years to come. In the previous book Mercy's home was burned down.
Terri Schnaubelt does an excellent job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

4th novel in a great crime series!

In listening to the 17 novels and 2 novellas by Kendra Elliot as well as some by Melinda Leigh it seems that mostly rural central Oregon must be the murder capital of the world. MERCIFUL SILENCE is the 4th novel in Kendra Elliot's FBI special agent Mercy Kilpatrick series with at least two more to come. This novel is unusual in that the first person portion is of the antagonist. All of the novels earn 5 stars both for the stories and Teri Schnaubelt's narration. Kendra Elliot's police procedurals are consistently outstanding.

RECOMMENDED. Purchase Kendra Elliot's novels at Amazon rather than Audible where the Kindle and Audible versions combined are less than the Audible versions alone. Kindle unlimited members can borrow both versions at no cost.

FABULOUS SERIES!!!!

I've greatly enjoyed this series. I hate that Book 5 and 6 aren't available. I hope they come available very soon. Kendra Elliot has a writing talent that can't be denied. Her characters are so alive and have a wealth of personality. And the narration delivery by Teri Schnaubelt has been exceptional. I love the fact that she has been the narrator of choice from the beginning. Sometimes when narrators are changed at some point in a series, it almost interferes with the enjoyment. It's like getting to know the characters all over again by voice change. This series is SO WORTH THE CREDITS!!! But start from the beginning.

So glad I listened to the audiobook

Teri did an excellent job narrating this book. The voice that she gave the storage unit owner was amazing. I absolutely love the way that she did Narration for this book. She brought all the characters to life in a way that I don’t know if I could’ve done while reading it for myself. I love Kendra Elliot’s books and look forward to listening to the next one.

I loved this story!!!!

This has to be, hands down, my favorite book of this series. It had a lot of wtf moments, as any Kendra Elliot Book does, and it had more. It was a crazy, somewhat traumatizing ride and I loved every single, solitary, second of it.

There were a few times that I’m pretty sure I stopped breathing. Lol. It was full of ups and downs for not only Mercy but Truman. There is a new character introduced, Britta, who I really liked. There were a few familiar faces (characters) from the other series, which is always a bonus.

The small town is racked with murder, confusion and a lot of questions and as always it’s up to the Eagles Nest Sheriffs office and the FBI to get things underway. It also puts those same people, in danger. A danger that will not be easily stopped. After a few heart pounding hours, I can say, I frigging loved this book. As I said earlier, it’s my favorite.

I can’t wait to see what’s next for Truman and Mercy!

Another winner from Kendra Elliot

The Mercy Kilpatric series does not disappoint! I gave this 4 stars because the story dragged at times, but it was a solid story with great narration.

Love this series!

I love all of the books in this series. I listened to all as audiobooks and the women who performs it is perfect. I am glad it was the same person for all of them. The voice makes or breaks the audiobook and her's was perfect! The story was well written and went with the others just right.
