When editor Susan Ryeland is given the manuscript of Alan Conway's latest novel, she has no reason to think it will be much different from any of his others. After working with the best-selling crime writer for years, she's intimately familiar with his detective, Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries disturbing sleepy English villages. An homage to queens of classic British crime such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers, Alan's traditional formula has proved hugely successful.

Publisher's summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Featuring an exclusive Q&A between Anthony Horowitz and Adam Hamdy.
I couldn't see the sea from my bedroom, but I could hear the waves breaking in the distance. They reminded me that I was on a tiny island. And I was trapped.
There has never been a murder on Alderney.
It's a tiny island, just three miles long and a mile and a half wide. The perfect location for a brand-new literary festival. Private investigator Daniel Hawthorne has been invited to talk about his new book. The writer, Anthony Horowitz, travels with him.
Very soon they discover that not all is as it should be. Alderney is in turmoil over a planned power line that will cut through it, desecrating a war cemetery and turning neighbour against neighbour.
The visiting authors - including a blind medium, a French performance poet and a celebrity chef - seem to be harbouring any number of unpleasant secrets.
When the festival's wealthy sponsor is found brutally killed, Alderney goes into lockdown and Hawthorne knows that he doesn't have to look too far for suspects.
There's no escape. The killer is still on the island. And there's about to be a second death....

"No one must leave the island."
iA new book festival on the island of Alderney, and author Anthony Horowitz is invited to attend alongside PI Hawthorne, ex police, thrown out after mysterious circumstances, the detective whose murder mystery investigations he is following. And of course, things go wrong, the festival interrupted by a murder
Clever story with a even more clever use of characters.
Narrator Rory Kinnear is excellent. The third book in the Hawthorne and Horowitz mystery series and very much recommended for all lovers of Agatha Christie.

Third book in the very enjoyable Hawthorne series
Love this one - Rory Kinner’s reading is spot on! I was so excited to see an addition to the Hawthorne series because I just love them. The story’s really interesting - I knew very little about Alderney and the Channel Islands in general and I’m going to do more reading about them now, they’re fascinating. The plot is loads of fun. Recommended!

Great story but oh! Bad narration!
Im still only half way through and i can tell its a very good story as are all Michael Horowitz’s books - but - also as usual ( but worse then usual) i am really held back by Rory Kinnears narration. He is such a wonderful stage actor - but please! Take note that you dont have to act so loud and large and exaggerated on voice recordings! Less is MUCH better. Women dont squawk - yet all his do. And Hawthorne seems to be getting more and more loud and course and squawky as well! It is not a stage play - my ears are feeling accosted.

Loved it.
Am greatly enjoying the Hawthorne series, and in particular Horowitz’s honesty as a writer, making sure that every clue that reveals the murderer is in plain sight.
Rory Kinnear as narrator is excellent, proving
the importance of getting a skilled actor for the job.

Along With Jeffery Archer,Anthony Horowitz is one of my very favourite writers, clever and addictive you just don't want to put it down till finished. I pre-ordered title and have really enjoyed it and would recommend. the only problem now (for me) is how do I follow this up, not easy!!

What a shame
I love Anthony Horowitz books normally, but I am sorry to say this book was somewhat marred by Rory Kinnears over the top narration. Hawthorne and Anthony voices were fine, but the rest sounded more like I was listening to The Life of Brian …..he is a very naughty boy and then we had Hello Hello thrown in for good measure, really sorry as I have great respect for Rory as actor but he just didn’t cut it this time .

Great story and narration
I have just listened to books 2 and 3 back to back and didn’t want to put them down. Rory Kinnear is a brilliant narrator, love his Hawthorne voice.
A Line to Kill is the best yet, laugh out loud funny in places but still an intriguing murder mystery. What is the secret of Hawthorne’s past? Will we ever find out?

Great read
This latest Anthony Horowitz book is my favourite to date.A murder is committed on the island of Alderney during a book festival and there are plenty of suspects. The characters are so well drawn and the story so believable. I love that the writer is actually in the story - an inspired idea which works so well for me! Hawthorn the morose ex detective is developing nicely, and as always is so clever and observant. Rory Kinnear is the ideal reader and I hope he continues to perform the rest in this series.

This series keeps getting better and better.
The first 2 in the series were great, and A Line To Kill is even better. The plots are simple, but quite ingenious in their twists and turns, so poor old Tony never has a chance. Hawthorne is a brilliant creation.

Loved the setting and the characters
I also enjoyed Anthony’s chat at the end. One point he makes summarises this book, it’s easy to follow and understand the characters and how they merge into the storyline. So many “Who Done Its” are too confusing and disjointed that it’s easy too loose the thread of the story and thus also loose interest. Loved all three in this series

Another marvellous story in the Hawthorn series. Intriguing setting and story. Fantastic narration although I hate Hawthorn’s voice. Perfect for his character though. The discussion with “Tony” at the end of this audiobook was fantastic. When you love a book you really want to know more of how and why it was written.

Wonderful
I just love the Hawthorne and Horowitz Mysteries and I think they are just getting better. Wonderful plot and writing, very clever concept running through the entire series, and a very satisfying conclusion.
I recommend reading them in order.
Another big plus is an interview with Horowitz at the end, that takes the listener more deeply into the workings of this series' premise, and his writing all round.
I'm eagerly anticipating the next book.
