Publisher's Summary

Some secrets should never be revealed....

As far as Lady Helena Carter is concerned, it isn’t bad to be a wallflower and a bluestocking. She wants nothing more than to be independent. Her father hasn’t made her life easy, and all her mother wants is her to find a husband - any man will do. In order to achieve her goal, she comes up with a foolproof plan to achieve her greatest wish. There is only one problem, and a man is at the heart of it.

Some secrets can’t be kept....

Lord Oliver Hunt, the Marquess of Dashville, has been plagued with rumors and innuendo for five years, and it’s all that dratted Lady X’s fault. He made one wrong move in his wayward youth, and he’s been paying for it ever since. Determined to make the Lady of Whispers see him differently, he devises a scheme to make amends to the first lady that Dash slighted. He seeks out Lady Helena for that purpose, but she won’t have anything to do with him.

Unraveling a secret can be sweet....

As they continue to cross paths, desire sparks between them. Their budding romance is tested as secrets are uncovered, and the revelations will either bring them closer together or tear them apart forever.

Excellent!!!

My favorite historical romance books to read or mail order bride stories. When I got this one for free it sounded OK, but The more I read it the more I realized I loved it. It was so good! I now cannot wait to read more books by dawn Brower she is historically correct which is a pet peeve of mine and she makes the women independent for their time not like 21st-century women. This book was awesome I loved it!

Why?

Still unsure as to why he loved her so. Lady Helena was snippy and mean throughout the story and seemed to feel persecuted by all. She felt deserving of his admiration, yet she seemed to have no good opinion toward him. The perceived slight Oliver paid her at the beginning of the story did not warrant her extremely negative behaviors.

Perhaps, had the author included some evidence of Lady Helena’s kindness or fine character, the reader might see why Oliver endured humiliation while continuing to pursue her. Still .... I cannot resist a “Happily Ever After” ending. 💗

A Lady Hoyden's Secret

I love lady X she brings such a great mystery to this series (or at least to the ton). Lady Helena is determined if she can't have the only many who has her interest then she will remain single. She only must make it to her 30th birthday to receive her inheritance. But she has a few year more to go when Lord Oliver Hunt sets his sights on her. The story is a fun easy listen. Price Waldman is easy to listen to but his mispronunciation of key words for this time period drives me a bit crazy.

Lady X's secrets

Regency Romances have always appealed to me. Dawn Brower has an engaging style of writing humor and great imagery into her books. The storyline was fun and realistic. The characters were endearing. I thought the narration was very well done. Price Waldman is a new to me narrator and did perform the book great. I would definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

Not for me

Though this didn’t start as a good book for me, I at least thought it would be an okay one, with some entertaining parts and occasional glimpses of interesting writing. However, shortly into it, the tone became crude. It also had far too many anachronisms right out the gate. Sounds like a modern story simply set in that time period. There is also a major mispronunciation in the narration.

This was the perfect length for a romance book!

I enjoyed this story. It did not have a bunch of filler or another person / persons trying to steal one of the lovebirds. Perfect length and very well written. Narrator did great!

Good listen in the car

I like this book. It is light and has some mystery to it. It is a short story and reads well. The narrator Price Waldman gave a great performance.

A Gem of a Story!

This is a gem of a story with Lady X up to her usual delicious bits of scandal and outing the Ton in her spreadsheet articles.
But could she get it to work in her favor?
I loved the secret of Lady X's identity being slowly uncovered to Lord Oliver and the power it gave him to woo Lady Helena and at last make her his.
These two characters are a delight. He is staid and set on a given course of action. She is secretive and unloved by her parents, hoping for peace and happiness as a spinster.
Lovely story, well written by Dawn Brower and very nicely narrated by Price Waldman. Listening to it was an enjoyable all round experience which I am happy to recommend.
I listened to the audiobook version and my unbiased review above is given voluntarily.

Short in length but full of Regency Spice

One Duke's daughter who is happily resigned to spinsterhood. One Marquess. One insightful gossip columnist. Another season ends but the chemistry is only getting more explosive.

This short audiobook is thoroughly enjoyable. It is a well formed little nugget of a story with a lot going on and all of it with the flair and dramatics of the Regency period.
