Publisher's summary

Companion wanted for an old and ornery card player.

All I want is a clever person to play cards with at night. No funny business. You sleep in your bed, and I’ll sleep in mine. Must be clean, quiet, sober, and willing to go to bed at a reasonable hour. A preference will be given to applicants who can play cribbage and gin rummy.

Sure, Kade wouldn’t normally consider a position as a companion for a polar bear shifter sentenced to a life in the oil fields of Alaska’s North Slope. But he’s broke. And the pay is good.

He doesn’t expect the “ornery card player” to be so handsome. Or sweet.

Before long, Kade wishes some “funny business” was an option. Especially when he goes into heat two weeks early...

A Handkerchief for Kade is an age-gap romance with an omega who loves makeup, D/s, and mpreg of the penguin egg variety. It’s book five of the Alaskan Pebble Gifters series and will only make sense if you’ve listened to the other books.

Absolute love

Kade is life. You can't help but live him. he is kind, sassy, and a bit clueless but determined to make things work. and he's obviously a beautiful boy. Otis is completely different. He comes off grumpy at first but you honestly can't help but feel for him. you find yourself just really wanting things to work out.

This book ties a lot of the other books together. honestly the amount of foresight the author has is amazing. another amazing aspect is the world building. we learn more about what really goes on at the slope, the hired hearts, the penguins on the slope, some of more of the secrets the guild is keeping, and about the little blue penguins (which are real penguins called fairy penguins and live in Australia and are the smallest penguin known to man, they're adorable!).

Honestly, you can't help but love this story and it really ties the series together cleanly in the long term plot. The narration is also fantastic. I absolutely love this narrator. I think his voice and acting for the story nicely and I look forward to more from him in the future.

If you're into shifter books or you're looking for something different, I HIGHLY recommend giving the series a try and if you're familiar with this author's work then you already know you're going to love it.

Fairy Penguins! All the blue!

Not my favorite couple of the series, but the plot is unfolding!

Some card playing, a little bit of breath play, backpacks for nesting. Also, very cute getting to see the fairy penguin shifters with blue hair. Daddy too!

Come for the cute penguins, stay for the social commentary

When I first started on this series, I went into it thinking “Hey, cute penguin shifters!” But with every story this world gets bigger and more complex. And the author has a sneaky way of commenting on a lot of social issues, be it gender identity, racism or, as in this particular story, punishment fitting the crime and how some societies have for-profit-ways of dealing with criminals.
All this while still giving us cute penguins, steamy sexiness and hilarious nesting practices.
I love love love this author who made it so I have to insta buy shifter stories (which are normally not my favorite) and I forgive her for making my wallet empty as long as she keeps my heart full with all the feels.

Cuteness

Otis and Cade were very loveable characters. Their romance happened pretty fast but it wasn’t quite an insta love romance.

Cade is broke and found an ad requesting a companion for a “rager” who just wants to play cards and not have any funny stuff happen. Otis is the “rager” who, after one too many fights, is mandated to take a companion to see if that would calm him down more.

They hit it off, with Cade setting off Otis’ dormant daddy vibes and Otis being exactly Cade’s type. They start getting to know each other when Blu goes into heat early! You know what that means…. Knotting and a Surprise baby!!

They navigate their new relationship and the possibility of becoming parents while Otis is still in that prison. There’s forgiveness and found family and a great little happy ending with cameos from previous books.

Fantastic

I have been an Amy Bellows fan for quite some time and am so happy to report that A Handkerchief for Kade has become my favorite of the penguin shifter novels! I loved this one as an ebook and was quite eager to listen to it on audio. The characters are rich and compelling, the backdrop is stark and beautiful and the storyline was fantastic! Zachary Zaba did an amazing job bringing these characters to life and I cannot wait to listen to more of his work! LOVED this one so much!!!

Sweet, Heartfelt, Funny, Steamy.

I had a great time listening Zachary Zaba lively and with lots of pizzazz , narrate this entertaining , delightful , hot , Mpreg, shifter , romance.

A Handkerchief for Kade is book 5 in the superb and entertaining Alaskan Pebble Gifters series.

Amy Bellows is a very creative and imaginative writer . The world she has built for this series continues to grow in an organic and natural matter. It's strong foundations easily support all it's layers; they only get stronger, more intriguing , compelling and rich with each new book.

This is one of my favorite series in this genre. Get it , you're going to love it. I know I did .

This is yet another powerful story in this series. We are seeing the control over the polar bear shifters by their own people. The story focuses on one couple but their story is the story of many around them. I loved how their love just exploded with each other yet seemed so right for the two of them. I love that Kade is able to find a the acceptance he has been missing for so long.

I listened to the audio version and it was so well done and engaging.
