Acerca de esta escucha

A beautiful scarf, passed down through the generations, connects two women who learn that the weight of the world is made bearable by the love we give away....

September 1911. On Ellis Island in New York Harbor, nurse Clara Wood cannot face returning to Manhattan, where the man she loved fell to his death in the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. Then, while caring for a fevered immigrant whose own loss mirrors hers, she becomes intrigued by a name embroidered onto the scarf he carries...and finds herself caught in a dilemma that compels her to confront the truth about the assumptions she's made. Will what she learns devastate her or free her?

September 2011. On Manhattan's Upper West Side, widow Taryn Michaels has convinced herself that she is living fully, working in a charming specialty fabric store and raising her daughter alone. Then a long-lost photograph appears in a national magazine, and she is forced to relive the terrible day her husband died in the collapse of the World Trade Center towers...the same day a stranger reached out and saved her. Will a chance reconnection and a century-old scarf open Taryn's eyes to the larger forces at work in her life?

I was hesitant to read this because I was afraid it would be a sappy story, but I was wrong. The characters were well rounded, believable, and strong women (though vulnerable).

Refreshing story!

If you could sum up A Fall of Marigolds in three words, what would they be?

Loved the moving through time and the way ideas and people were woven thru time.

What other book might you compare A Fall of Marigolds to and why?

Good character development, you cared about what happened to them all.

Have you listened to any of Tavia Gilbert’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Well done, easy to listen to and believable.

Who was the most memorable character of A Fall of Marigolds and why?

Lily, you know so little about her but wish you could have heard her version of events.

Any additional comments?

Heartwarming, the tale of two women who's stories shadow each other a century apart. Safe read for someone who is not keen on lovey love stories

This was a lovely, touching story of home love transcends time and how terrible events can connect people in unimaginable ways. I found myself crying at some points of this story but encouraged and inspired by the end.

4.5 stars actually. I did pick up the book because of the topic of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire and was disappointed that it did not delve too deeply into it, hence the 4.5 rather than 5 stars.
That said, I don't think there is a book of Susan Meissner's that I have not given at least 4 stars to.
This one had it all for me, well done dual time line stories, very informative and moved along nicely.
Some reviews have said they thought it was corny, for young adults or had issues with some of the characters. All I can say is that I just enjoyed the listen very much. Tavia Gilbert is one of my favorite narrators.
The story It was tragic and uplifting at the same time. Just an enjoyable read for me. I actually wish it had gone on for a bit more.
I learned a lot about the hospitals and quarantining at Ellis Island in the early 1900's,. I just wish there had been more information about the fire.

Meisner is a good storyteller. Woven through recent history in a well told, though not overly burdensome fashion, this is a tale of two women and how we are often more connected than we believe ourselves to be. Very enjoyable!

Clever and thoughtful
