Resumen del Editor

In this new novel from the acclaimed author of Secrets of a Charmed Life, two women working in Hollywood during its golden age discover the joy and heartbreak of true friendship.

Los Angeles, present day. When an iconic hat worn by Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind ends up in Christine McAllister's vintage clothing boutique by mistake, her efforts to return it to its owner take her on a journey more enchanting than any classic movie....

Los Angeles, 1938. Violet Mayfield sets out to reinvent herself in Hollywood after her dream of becoming a wife and mother falls apart, and she lands a job on the film set of Gone with the Wind. There, she meets enigmatic Audrey Duvall, a once-rising film star who is now a fellow secretary. Audrey's zest for life and their adventures together among Hollywood's glitterati enthrall Violet...until each woman's deepest desires collide. What Audrey and Violet are willing to risk, for themselves and for each other, to ensure their own happy endings will shape their friendship, and their lives, far into the future.

Absolutely wonderful story and writing

A very wonderful story with believable characters. The writing is outstanding. This is only my second book by Susan Meissner and I can't get enough of her writing and stories. Eorth every second spent on it!

pretty boring story

Started off okay. But just become a meandering story with one of the main characters becoming more and more unlikeable and annoying.

Love!

I love how this author goes into such depth and detail about the backstory of her characters of the story that she's telling. This is the second book that I've read/listen to and I look forward to reading many more

A sweet read. love, kindness, jealousy and life.

This was a good book. Once it got started it took a few unexpected turns and touched so many beautiful issues between two incredible friends.

Love this book

This is a wonderful story. I could not put it down. It starts out during the filming of Gone With The Wind the story is a behind the scenes told by two office girls who are roommates. The book continues to present day giving you a detailed account of their lives and what it must have been like to live during that era.

Didn't Enjoy as Much as Other Books by this Author

I have become a fan of this author, Susan Meissner, and her style of historical fiction; having read " As Bright as Heaven" & listened to "The Last Year of the War". I thoroughly enjoyed both of those books. However, I was disappointed with this book. For me, it just seemed to drag on and on, and become a bit too syrupy for my taste. I also did not enjoy the narrator's style. Unfortunately, it is not a book I would recommend as historical fiction or a great read.

Not As Good As Her Last Book

I am a fan of Susan Meissner...However this book somehow missed the mark. It seemed a little pretentious like a person who name-drops to feel like an insider. It did not quite have the genuine feel of Hollywood in the 30's The more the book progressed the less I like one of the main characters. The switch back and forth from the 40's to the present was mostly clumsy and the character development for the elderly Violet and her daughter was just not there.I thought the "Hat" part of the plot was rather silly. Did not like the narrator much ...her southern voice was cloying. Will look for the next book and hope it is more like "The Secret of a Charmed Life" her previous novel, which I thought was very good.

History meets Hollywood

I recently discovered this author and I have been so pleased with each book I have read. This book takes you to the set of Gone with the Wind. I really enjoy when an author does her research and shares little nuggets of information about a time period you may have not known. I enjoyed the story and how it is original and not the same old formula used by so many writers. The characters were real and handled things in an ordinary way. Grab a cozy blanket curl up on the couch and enjoy this wonderful read.
