Publisher's summary

Tricia Miles has just received a second marriage proposal within 15 minutes. The first was from her friend with benefits, Marshall Chambers, and the second from her ex-lover, Police Chief Grant Baker. Tricia's got some serious thinking to do.

She's still weighing her options when she hears the sound of an engine roaring down Main Street. It's a big white pickup truck that aims for and hits Marshall as he's walking back to his apartment. Tragically, he's killed, leaving Tricia feeling bereft and guilty. She retreats to her sister, Angelica's, apartment to wait for Baker to update her on what happened. While there, Tricia takes Angelica's dog out for a comfort call behind the building, and the same white pickup roars up the alley and just misses hitting Tricia.

Still shaken by that news, Tricia returns to Haven't Got a Clue and is met by Federal Marshal Kirby, who tells her that Marshall had been in the Federal Witness Protection Program. Everything Marshall told Tricia was a lie - in particular, that he was a widower. Was his death an act of revenge?

Tricia's on the hunt for a killer, and it seems like she might be next on the list.

Ughhhh— spoiler alert

I really like this series and have come to like the characters. The description of the town and season makes me wish it was real. That being said this one was just unbelievable… it’s like the author was getting towards the end, had no idea who to make the killer and just decide oh let’s make a long standing character be the killer. Ridiculous! It made the full of herself Tricia even worse 🙄
I love the narrator and have listened to many books narrated by her.
If I hadn’t already purchased the next book in the series I’d stop with this one. Hopefully the next is better.

old friends with shocking ending

I have listened to this series since the first book. It is not silly and Tricia is not perfect. Over the years the characters have developed, warts and all. Tricia , like all of,doubts some of earlier decisions but not in a "oh poor me" manner. Her sister is a very upbeat but learn she can also have a point unforgiveness. Without giving away the ending i will only say I was brought to tears . We can become invested in well written characters,as I have with this book. Hate to wait for the next book.

Very Disappointed!!!!

Love this series, but I feel the author let us down. Who doesn't want a "Happy Ending"? Maybe we will get a Bobby Ewing scene and Grant will be taking a shower in Trisha's apartment. One could only hope!

Running out of town suspects

I’ve loved these books but this one just felt so out of character. Without giving anything away, I feel like the culprit was far fetched and was just picked as they were close Tricia’s inner circle so why not!!!

I also thought a row in the story was just so frivolous and out of character and blown way out of proportion and then resolved and all was fine again.

Just not up to the standard as I expect from these books.

Also, the narration keeps changing how they do people’s voices even though it’s the same voice artist…

Sad Deletion!

I have really liked this series, and have enjoyed becoming "acquainted" with the characters. It almost felt like I know them, and this ending was very sad to me!

I do wonder why it seems like so many cozy mystery heroines are portrayed as strong and smart women who are incapable of finding and maintaining a stable and happy romantic life. Is it a reflection of the authors or the genre?

I agreed with other comments that it seemed like there was a bit of confusion with the voices by the narrator. That didn't really impact my thoughts on the story though, as much as the ending.

Disappointed. Narration is horrible

I was upset at the ending. A good character is now done with the story. I've listened to the whole series and have liked the characters. Partly because the old narrator, Karen White, brought the characters to life. You could always tell who was talking because she did an awesome job of giving each person their own voice. Pixies voice totally fit her personality. And Antonio actually had an Italian accent.
The narrator for this book ruined the voices. It seems like she doesn't even try to put life into the characters. Antonio doesn't even have an accent in this book. I found myself getting sleepy from her voice. This will be my last book. This narrator does the next book too. And the story line is getting ridiculous. Poor Trisha can't catch a break with men. Either they die, kill someone or end up in jail.
This series needs new life,

Story doesn’t fit

This may be my least favorite in the series. It didn’t piece together and flow well at all. Antonio’s accent totally disappeared and it really seemed like more of a soap opera than a cozy mystery. The victim, motive, killer, and ending just felt mashed together and connected by an unstable thread.
