I picked this up while dealing with burnout and constant tension in my body. I’d heard about the vagus nerve before but didn’t really understand how to work with it. I loved how the author discussed how shaking (that is naturally found in nature where ducks flap their wings after a fight with another duck, etc.) can be used in humans to regulate the nervous system and offload stored trauma. I loved the chapter on stretching exercises that help alleviate some of this aforementioned tension. There were also some nice quotes that started chapters from people like Ghandi, that remind us of why many of us are learning this stuff and doing this work in the first place-to chill out and become more mindful and happier! It was really interaction to learn that when we experience trauma, the vagus nerve becomes disrupted. This was great to realize. Dr. Ron Daulton Jr provides listeners with a wealth of excellent information and actionable exercises.

I listened to this during a week when I was feeling tense and worn out from work and barely sleeping. I started doing a few of the simple breathing exercises while sitting in traffic and noticed I felt calmer before I even got home. The narrator’s voice was smooth and steady which made it easier to focus. I liked that the steps were clear and not overwhelming. Some parts felt a little repetitive but it helped the ideas stick. It gave me tools I could actually use right away.
