Eat Pray Love meets American Psycho in a seductive and sinister debut literary thriller.

Food critic Dorothy Daniels indulges in her homicidal urges by murdering her lovers and devouring their organs in this intense, visceral, and lushly told tale of food, sex, power, and the pursuit of a very particular taste set between New York and Italy.

A man-eating journey of self-discovery
"Based on the promotional pitch for this new Audible Original—"Eat Pray Love meets American Psycho"—A Certain Hunger could have been written just for me. But so loud was the collective gasp in the room when the project was announced, it’s clear a lot of us were hungry for the story of a female cannibal on a self-actualizing voyage of homicidal hedonism. Chelsea G. Summers’s debut novel follows food writer Dorothy Daniels—the epicurean lovechild of Elizabeth Báthory and the vampire Lestat, if they were fluent in New York media and wrote Nabokovian prose—on a lascivious romp from the cocktail bars of Manhattan to the truffle-hiding hills of Italy. Somewhere along the way, she’s landed herself in prison; perhaps it has to do with her (literal) taste in men? Provocative and very funny, A Certain Hunger is narrated by veteran performer Hillary Huber—just the right icing for this bloody, decadent cake."

This book is perfect. The writing, the story, the narrator all come together for one incredible listening experience. I adored this book so much. I can’t stop talking about it and promoting it to others. I want every smart, sexy, witty woman I know to read it. I don’t kill or eat men but I connected with Dorothy so much and I loved her as a lead character. I will read everything that this writer comes out with and if HBO or Netflix buys it- I’ll watch it!

Nothing will prepare you for this luscious deep dive into the deranged yet delightfully creative mind of Chelsea G. Summers. This book is at once a love story of gastronomical bliss, an Italian travel guide, an episode of OITNB, a gruesome crime thriller, an unapologetic hedonistic romp, a Creep Show trailer, a carnal smorgasbord, and a Dahmer-esque confessional. The opulent language and descriptives will make you swoon. It’s pure Art. There aren’t many books that demand I pause and consult a dictionary, but this book made that bit of work a real pleasure. And there aren’t many books that are so addictive from the first chapter that I must force myself not to binge through it at warp speed. This book is all the things that make us love reading. The narrator nails her audio portrayal of Dorothy and delights in the task. It’s such a good book I want to start it all over again and take my time savoring each morsel in penitence for wolfing it down the first go-round. One side note: I discovered a singular flaw. I thought I had figured out Dorothy’s undoing. I convinced myself that Dorothy’s fingerprint evidence on the security keypad in the butcher shop was her smoking gun - but I was wrong. That bit of forensic evidence was never mentioned or followed up on. It was an overlooked loose end the author neglected to tie up and one the Polizia never got to explore. Other than that, this story is all Michelin stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Delicious Horrifying Perfection

This book is like Dexter, Silence of The Lambs, and Fifty Shades of Grey had a demented baby. It is quite possibly the weirdest thing I've ever read. There were parts where I couldn't wait to see what happened next and there other parts where I had to force myself to keep going. I kept debating whether I liked it or not. It wasn't until the end that I made up my mind. The ending did such a brilliant job that I thought it elevated the piece as a whole and left me with a very positive impression.
It is definitely not a book for anyone with a weak stomach but if you think you can handle it, it worth your time. I can guarantee it is unlike anything else you will ever come across
