A Broken Bone

This is the sixth installment in this series and they all sorta intertwine just by characters alone. This one involves foster siblings (not related) and parents. One of the boys was reported missing and when he is found murdered the parents come under suspicion. Everyone thought the parents were the best foster parents until suddenly the tables turn and we discover it was one of the boys. A squatter took his picture and when he was caught up to all the stories fall apart.

Really want more!

I really like the series but there is more to know. I felt like the new characters were not very developed and there was more to the story. Many questions left without answers.

Series becoming more Romance/ less pizazz.

Not much mystery or murder, that part seems rushed from the first books. Too easy to figure out. It seems that the mystery has given over to romance while covering details over and over from the other books. I find it rather boring and redundant.
And here I was all set to go through the whole series. Sadly not, how many times can one person be stalked, threatened or kidnapped? I really wanted this to be better, two female cops, I was all in, but nope.
I'm done.

Great story just ok narrator

Again. I love Melinda Leigh & Kendra Elliot and I love it when they team up, BUT this narrator is just “ok”….these would be so much better with a different narrator.

Clean or Fade to Black - 1 or 2
Normal to Descriptive 3-5
Detailed Descriptive Sex - 6-7
Um, Wow, Beyond Descriptive Sex - 8 or above

The back story... The blurb says it all.

The Romance... Continued slow build with a major upgrade at the end.

The drama explosion... Another human shield
Did it feel Real, OK or contrived? Contrived
Was it OTT? Yes
Separation involved? No
Was it resolved properly or rushed? Ok

Final Notes... I love Melinda Leigh and her stories. This would have been a 4 - 4.5 Star listen for me but the repetitive end (mirrored the previous book in the series) was too much. That was a full point deduction for me. The rest of the story was solid.

Dementia, Broken Foster Care System, and Murder

Book six in the Widow's Island Series has a lot going on and it ranks as one of the best so far. I care about all the folks on Widow's Island, and Deputy Tessa Black is one of my favorites. Her mother's dementia is worsening and the friends and neighbors are all pitching in to help care for her so she doesn't have to go into a nursing facility. Some days are worse than others, and when Tessa has to calm her mother down enough to get a butcher knife away from her, it is clear that something has to give. 😢 Meanwhile, Tessa and Logan are called out to reports of an explosion, and end up finding Bruce's mother, Patsy, who is visiting, in an abandoned house, having fallen through the rotted floor to the basement below. While trying to extract her, they find a decomposing body covered by debris. The body turns out to be a missing teenager from a local foster home. Widow's Island doctor, Henry Powers, also serves as the local coroner. Henry reports that gunshots to the head are the cause of death. The investigation is a difficult one, and the twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat. The failing Foster Care System is heartbreaking, and comes to the forefront, as Tessa interviews the foster parents and others in the home. Excellent story and top notch conclusion. Can't wait for the next in the series.

Difficult subjects, good narration

This book is well written and well told, but a lot of the subject matter is difficult and sad. Therefore, this book just isn't for me. The narration is very good.
