Publisher's Summary
When it comes to gambling and love, you must decide upon three things at the start: the rules of the game, the stakes, and the quitting time.
Logan Sinclair, a gambler, has an ultimatum from his father to clean up his life and marry, or lose his inheritance. He complies with all but the marriage. His father dies before he can change his will, leaving Logan just weeks to find a bride.
Left stranded in a strange town, and forced by necessity to take a job as a saloon woman, Emma Jamison finds herself fired on her first night. She is desperate for a place to go, so she agrees to marry Logan, who needs a wife immediately. Logan thinks he’s married a saloon woman, and Emma is happy to let him think it. He wants to annul the marriage after six months, and that’s fine with her. Things go along well, until a man from Emma’s past finds her and causes trouble. Around the same time, Logan’s past catches up with his life. How can such a mess in both their lives ever cause a happily ever after?

Sweet story
I received a free code to listen to this book and I did so willingly. I should preface this review by stating that this is not the typical type of romance book I read. I usually read more risque stories. That being said, it is very sweet and I enjoyed the story. I, too, am a sucker for a good love story with a happy ending. Very sweet. No sex, no foul language. Some violence.
This book is well written and narration is excellent.

Sweet Romance
Logan’s father agrees to pay his gambling debt if he agrees to stop gambling and marry within a year. When Logan turns his life around and stops gambling his father agrees to change his will however he dies before he gets the chance. Unfortunately this leaves Logan a month to get married or his entire inheritance will go to his sister. Emma is stranded in a rough town with no family and no place to stay when she is offered a job at a saloon. This doesn’t work out quite as she hopes, and after being attacked in an alley, she accepts a proposal as a proxy bride. Logan and Emma are brought together under complicated circumstances and both are keeping their distance from the other. There are many twists and turns in this sweet, story. I would have liked a bit more character development and romance between the two lead characters, however the story was enjoyable nonetheless. J. Scott Bennett’s narration is wonderful. He brings the characters to life with his many voices and emotions and makes the listening experience very entertaining. I did receive a free copy of this audiobook and am providing an unbiased review.

A Bride for Logan
Emma and Logan, brought together by strange circumstances, enter into a proxy marriage. Logan thought he was marrying a “saloon woman”, but there’s so much more to Emma than he realized. Is it just possible that there could be something more to their arrangement...
I absolutely love Barbara Goss’ stories. She writes with such emotion... I can’t help but fall in love with her characters.
Another top notch performance by J. Scott Bennett. His voice is just perfect for historical romances.

There’s a lot going on in this story, and it was full of twists and turns! There’s even a possibility for another story or two to come from this one! I’m always afraid of giving too much away, but I’m especially happy with the Christian focus in this story! I hope Barbara continues with more in this Proxy Brides series!!
The narration was good. There’s a cadence to his voice I enjoy, and he did pretty good at the ladies voices!

A saloon girl as a proxy bride!
Emma Jamison has not had it easy for the past few years. First, her father died then she went to live with her best friend and father. Unfortunately, they decided to move to the new frontier and died from fever. The wagon train master then dropped Emma off in the next city. Alone and scared, Emma went to the only safe place that she knew...the local church. However, she was led to a saloon by the church assistant...I know right!!! Of course, being a pious and godly young lady, Emma only lasted one hour! She was accosted by one of the saloon patrons and had kneed him!!! Then Emma was offered a solution...proxy marriage to a rancher who desperately needs a wife to fulfill the terms of his late father’s will.
Rancher, Logan Sinclair needs a wife now!! A while back, Logan had been addicted to gambling and his father was constantly bailing him out. Finally, his dad gave Logan an ultimatum, shape up or lose his inheritance to his sister. That was a wakeup call and Logan quit gambling and worked hard...too bad that his father passed away before changing his will. Logan has to marry within a month or lose the ranch. Enter the proxy bride from a saloon....aka Emma.
When Logan meets Emma, he’s intrigued but keeps his distance. His plan is to stay married for 6 months , without consummating the marriage, then divorcing Emma yet allowing her to live in a small cabin on his land. Can this harebrained plan stand up to the scrutiny of Logan’s sister? Will Emma compromise her beliefs by going along? When Emma’s former assailant shows up, will Logan be able to protect her and will he realize that his feelings have changed?
This author never ceases to impress me. Her writing is fluid and keeps you engrossed in the story. You feel as if you should be getting your buggy ready for a Sunday ride to church! The underlying theme is forgiveness and honesty. I love that Logan was able to embrace both. Great HEA.
I must add that the narrator was exceptional and perfectly paired with this book.
I voluntarily accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Truly enjoyed this audiobook about a man who needed a bride quickly but then found his feeling and his heart along the way.
A bit religious, and it adds depth to Emma's character.
Excellent narration, with emotion and strength to really add to the character's personalities.

Very Enjoyable!
Sometimes one is just plain lucky and a beautiful, clean, sweet, enjoyable and easy to read story just lands on your doorstep and one can just sit back and read or listen to it.
That is exactly what happened today when my specially requested copy of this audiobook arrived and let me tell you, I couldn't wait to get started on it.
It tells of a second chance romance of a couple who get married. There are certain circumstances that lead up to their second chance at love which make for interesting reading.
The story is written with such compassion that I simply 'felt' for the characters and I kept wishing they would just open their eyes and their hearts and see what was right in front of them.
I will tell you that there is a really pleasant ending (of course - this is a romance, after all) and I find myself wishing that the story could have continued, but all good things do eventually come to an end.
And now to tell you the best bit about this audiobook - it is narrated by one of my favorite narrators, J. Scott Bennett. He has the type of voice that just lends itself to is kind of story and he really does a good job of it.
If you are looking for something to entertain you, then this is the book/audiobook for you!
I listened to the audiobook version and my voluntary review above is unbiased.

Emma & Logan
Secrets always come to bite you in the end, and this story shows just that! Logan is an avid poker player, and as a result to keep him on the straight and narrow, his father adds a clause in his will that he must be married to inherit his ranch. Logan gets information from his friend Alan, and has Emma become his bride by proxy. As their story together begins, there Logan thinks Emma is a saloon woman, and keeps his distance from her so they can annul the marriage in six months. But as we know, secrets can cause a lot of problems, and this one brings a person from Emma's past to them that will change their lives. Not only does danger lurk, but a surprise for Logan is revealed. Barbara Goss writes such wonderful stories. This one I found to be particularly realistic. The desperation of a person can drive them to do things out of their comfort zone, as we see with Emma. And with Logan, there are misconceptions both with his family's past and with Emma that are easily construed. I find the realism refreshing, easy to understand and relate to. It makes the listen entertaining and interesting.
J. Scott Bennett always brings his best, and this narration is spot on. His voice is perfect for the historical romance genre, and I feel at home when I listen to him. He gives each character their own voice and adds just the right inflections to give you the feel of the story.
