Story
Preaching is hard work. When I first felt called to ministry, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. This little book is the kind of resource I wish I had way back when I felt the call to ministry. There were good books on preaching, but most lacked the practical tips I needed. I knew why I preached and what to preach. What I didn't know was how to preach. I needed short, practical tips to get me started in the right direction.

The Homiletical Plot, Expanded Edition follows in the same solid tradition of its predecessor. Upon its release, The Homiletical Plot quickly became a pivotal work on the art of preaching. Instead of comments on a biblical passage, Lowry suggested that the sermon follow a narrative form that moves from beginning to end, as with the plot of a story. This expanded edition continues to be an excellent teaching resource and learning tool for all preachers, from introductory students to seasoned clergy.

Packer, however, Christians have become enchanted by modern skepticism and have joined the "gigantic conspiracy of misdirection" by failing to put first things first. Knowing God aims to redirect our attention to the simple, deep truth that to know God is to love His Word.

Publisher's Summary
What every pastor wants: more time. The clock is every pastor's nemesis. Between meetings, administration, counseling, and other duties, it's hard to find enough time for sermon prep. Unless you change the process.
8 Hours or Less will show preachers how to write the same sermons they've been writing, but in half the time. Author Ryan Huguley reveals:
- The biggest time-wasters in sermon prep
- The five marks of a faithful sermon
- A day-by-day plan for writing sermons
- Tips for preparing your mind, heart, and notes for preaching
- Common pitfalls in ending a sermon
- And more
Huguley is a pastor and the host of a podcast featuring leaders like Matt Chandler, James MacDonald, Doug Wilson, and Nancy Ortberg. What he shares in 8 Hrs or Less is a process he's been refining for six years, and it has radically improved both his preaching and experience in ministry.
Why work harder when you can work smarter? 8 Hours or Less brings relief to the time crunch and helps pastors be healthier, more balanced, and more effective - all without making their sermons suffer for it.

not very helpful for quicker preparation
This is a good book for someone who has not taken any homiletics or hermeneutic classes. But if you are an educated preacher looking for advice on how to prepare faster, I think the author missed the mark. He described the preparation process well, broke it up into segments of everyday of the week, but set very unrealistic time deadlines to each part of the sermon prep process. He might have been able to train himself to do each step of the sermon prep within an hour or two, but his time deadlines are not realistic for a majority of preachers. Basically, this book can train you how to prepare and preach, but don't expect to master the 8-hour or less claim it makes.
