Useful in theory.

It's nice to have a list of the most common words to be able to see what gaps I have in my Chinese, However this lady is hard to listen to. Most of the time her Chinese is decent, but she pronounces things like 她 with a Pa sound instead of a Ta sound. And it's quite irritating that she cannot pronounce T's correctly in her own language.

Useful Resource/Supplement

When learning a language, it can be useful to have a frequency dictionary to either find new vocabulary to learn, or to cross-reference to see if the word is common or not. I found this book to be a helpful supplement to other textbooks or learning programs, and it's best used in conjunction with the PDF. Otherwise, it's like listening to a dictionary, which might not be the most effective way to use the audiobook. One item that I found helpful is that groups of words are grouped into chapters, so that it's easier to jump to the desired section. The format includes the Chinese word, an example Chinese sentence, and English translation of the sentence. When listening to the book, the least useful vocabulary for me was "X is a surname," but most other words were helpful.

Great resource

This is a great supplemental resource for learning Mandarin. It complements the text version of the book really well, as it provides authentic pronunciation to the words and sentences that may not be familiar at first reading.

Pronunciation Issues

Though the Chinese was perfect, the English pronunciation was so bad or certain words that I had to rewind several times and then guess the word she was trying to say.

In future materials, I would recommend posting the extra amount to get someone with flawless pronunciation for both languages, not just the one.

Very Useful Learning Tool

It's not for a complete beginner, I'd say, but now that I've gone through a big chunk of HSK2, I've started to feel very comfortable with it and it has becoming a favourite tool of mine in my personal Mandarin learning toolbox.
I read someone's review claiming that the narrator cannot say TA (他，她，它) clearly. Well, let me tell you that is bullshirt. Lin Xiong pronounces very clearly and I've had no trouble with her Mandarin pronunciation. If I had to complain about something, it would be the occasional English mishap (for example "science" is pronounced more like "signs" 😁), but the PDF clears these things out. I wholeheartedly recommend to use the PDF attachment whenever you can to get the most out of the book.
I love the model sentences, I've memorized a great number of them and I play with them and modify them to get myself better acquainted with how Mandarin Chinese is structured and how it tends to express different ideas. By HSK2 you should know enough words/characters to understand many sentences already, and it's great for practicing and learning new ones.
I keep listening to this one quite often on my way to and from work mostly, can't recommend it enough.

This book is very useful for beginners

This book is really good for beginners who wants to learn vocabulary. Some of the words are situational and you may not use them unless you’re in China. This is a great way to learn vocabulary and to start speaking right away.

Good as a supplement, but can't be used standalone

Lingo Mastery's 2000 most common words provides real sentences suitable for seeing how the words are used. In this, it excels the listicle books that repeat essentially the same sentence pattern for word after word. However, this means that you are looking at some fairly complex sentences for even the most basic words. Because of this, the audio version serves well as a readalong companion if you want to listen to 20 or 30 words a day to review, refresh and pick up the odd word you haven't learned yet. But it can't be used on its own to learn. This will best serve someone around HSK 3 or 4 who is rounding out their vocabulary.

Because the English pronunciation is pretty good and this is cleanly recorded, I would give this closer to 4 1/2 stars if marketed explicitly as an add-on to the book.

A great addition

The perfect accompaniment to the 2000 MCCW in context. I mainly am focusing on learning characters, their meanings and readings, but realized the importance of also being able to at the bare minimum recognize the nuances in pronunciation. The audio that accompanies, from a native speaker no less, is immensely helpful in training one's ear to Chinese phonetics, tones, and cadence. Thank you! :)

Well paced and great supplement

With learning languages it's important that you are able to listen as well as read and write and comprehend. This is a solid complement to the book part that they offer and I highly recommend getting both if you are looking for a frequency list with some solid contextual examples with them.

Learn the words you will hear the most often

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

I write this review in the middle of the Covid pandemic, a perfect opportunity to pick up a little Mandarin Chinese! This book has the 2000 most used Chinese words (apparently ordered by use in media) and comes together with a pdf that contains the words, the phrase they are said in, the Pinyin and the simplified Chinese.

I was really impressed with the way the audio-book was ordered: after the initial two chapters, starting with chapter three, each chapter is a block of 50 words so if you think you know the first 200 you can go to chapter 7 and you'll be on the 201st word.

No book will teach you an entire language but this book has enabled me to pick up common words in Chinese film/tv which I do not have to see the subtitles to understand, I am sure as I re-listen I will pick up more words and progress further in this particular language journey.

Annoying Numbers

The content is good, But it tells you the number before each sentence. When there are 2000 this gets very annoying! perhaps break it down into content and chapters.

Needs editing and a better narrator

The English sentences are unnatural and the pronunciation is a lot to be desired, but ok overall.
