The best of Allende, in short story

I recommend that you read Eva Luna first, although it is not necessary. The stories reference some characters from that book. These stories are quintessentially Latin American, with that fine line between this world and the next. They are deep, emotional and profound. Some of them are satisfactorily complete and others leave you needing more, in a delicious way. This is a marvelous read or listen—a treat for the soul.

Not at all up to par with Allende’s other works.

These stories are dull and times even pointlessly disgusting. Typically I find something intriguing to consider in her works but not feeling it here at all and the first narrator (male) was particularly bad. Not at all what I am used to from this author.
