Author's note: We've all consumed sci-fi or speculative fiction where the dystopian backdrop is some form of fascism - usually portrayed as conservatism run amok. This is not that kind of book. The backdrop of this book is a socialist and corporate statist disaster on a global scale. It is basically fascism arising from the left. I had to give the protagonists a reason to do what they do.... As such there are numerous disturbing scenes within, portraying everything from socialized medicine, five-year economic plans and government-enforced serfdom. If you think any of that sounds like a panacea for the future, you will not like this book.

The debut novel from a former CIA operations officer who has decided that his lifelong writing habit/hobby/obsession is more fun than "real" work.

Good story, I enjoy it so much I bought the next 2

Good story, I enjoy it so much I bought the next 2. This book hits a little to close to home, I could see our govt going this way in the next few decades. Wish there was a group with an alternative planet to join!

This guy sees the future...

Wow, this story seems to read like a future history book. Its a great read... well, listen. The future socialism take over and the conservitives leaving it behind to start anew. Great book!

Vary interesting. Well composed. Definitely would recommend it. Will listen on to the next one

Different Perspective

Very interesting and unique take on this genre. I found myself wondering what how different it would be to just start over!

A fast paced and entertaining SF thriller

"If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on earth."

That quote by Ronald Reagan has always been a favorite, and it presents an interesting dilemma - hypothetically, to where could one escape as authoritarianism grows and liberty wanes. Seasteading? Mars? Both unlikely for the ordinary person in our lifetime, and frankly not far enough away.

Of course this novel does not present a realistic answer to that dilemma, but it does present an appealing fantasy crafted as a fast paced and entertaining thriller. It is well written with great characters. And sometimes a brief escape into a well crafted fantasy is all you need.

I really enjoyed it!

Great storyline, great characters, and great narration. Frightening depiction of what may lay in store for us. The corruption of the government is far to realistic.

Great story, you find yourself growing attached to all the main people. Love the banter between Kyle and Jake.
