聴取してみると出るわ出るわ、どの部屋の住人からも「幽霊」の目撃談や、不安の声がどんどん出てきたという。
ある部屋の住人は深夜自室の押し入れから幽霊が現れるというし、
その部屋の真上の部屋の住人は風呂に入ると必ず割れるような頭痛に襲われるという。
話を聞きながら伯父は「そのアパートってもしかすると……」すると部下が
「そうです。あのアパートです。遺体なき殺人の……」
実は問題のアパートというのはかつて、伯父がまだ刑事部捜査一課にいたころに起こった異例中の異例、
遺体なき殺人事件の現場であったのだった。
