それは或る種の果物に似ています。西瓜(スイカ)の、あの固い緑色の外皮の中には赤くジューシーな果肉が、また荔枝(ライチ)の、あの固いトゲだらけの、茶色の外皮の中には、丸くて白く、甘い果肉が包まれています。
このシリーズは、漢詩のそのような果実をなるべくわかりやすくお伝えするもので、名作の数々を、時代背景や作者の境遇と合わせてお話ししてゆきます。

〈第七回 朝廷の日々〉
李白が朝廷から授かった官職は「翰林供奉」と言い、帝の詔勅や書簡の原稿を執筆する役でしたが、実際には園遊会や宴会の場で、帝の命に応じて詩を作る、宮廷詩人としての活動が多かったようです。宮廷詩人の詩作には、単に帝やその治世をほめたたえるだけではなく、世相や政治をそれとなく風刺することも求められていたのです。今回取り上げる五言古詩「子夜呉歌四首」其の三、雑言古詩「戦城南」は、その代表作。
李白は初め玄宗皇帝の覚えめでたく、周囲からも歓迎されていました。しかし朝廷に仕えて二年目くらいから、李白は宮廷生活になじめないものを感じ始めます。五言古詩「月下独酌四首」其の一は、一見メルヘン的な詠みぶりの中に、そのころの彼の心境をよく映し出しています。
