  • Why I had Enough of NYC and Left
    Mar 3 2026
This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit unveiltounlearn.substack.com

In this episode, we talk honestly about what it means to outgrow a city you still deeply love. About the moment when your environment no longer matches your frequency—and listening to that shift without guilt.

We reflect on growing up as first-generation Dominican women in New York, watching hip hop unfold in our neighborhoods, surviving the 80s and 90s, and living fully through the club era of the 2000s and 2010s. We also unpack how immigrant parents teach us lessons about resilience, freedom, and self-determination—often without ever saying a word.

This is a conversation about identity, autonomy, and choosing yourself without erasing where you come from. We talk about choosing fresh air, sunshine, and slower living without shame, and why returning to New York as a visitor can feel just as meaningful as living there once did.

New York will always be home. But home can also evolve.

  • 54. Life-changing Lessons from Our Immigrant Parents
    Feb 3 2026

Some of the most powerful lessons in life are never explained out loud.

They’re modeled in the everyday moments. In the sacrifices we witness. In the values that are lived, not preached.

In this episode of unveil podcast, we reflect on 10 life-changing truths we absorbed growing up with our immigrant parents and first-generation experiences. These lessons were shown through action, resilience, faith, and quiet consistency.

This conversation is an invitation to pay attention and recognize the wisdom that raised you—even if it was never formally named.

    In This Episode We Explore:

Why learning is a lifelong responsibility, not a phase

    Why memories outlast material things

How generosity creates community and return

  • 53. Rest Is the Reset We Keep Ignoring
    Jan 20 2026

In this episode, we explore what rest actually means in a culture that equates productivity with worth, especially within the Dominican American experience and broader first-generation stories. We talk about the difference between true rest and avoidance, and why slowing down often brings up guilt, discomfort, or the feeling that we should always be doing more. Rather than viewing rest as something earned only after exhaustion, this conversation invites a mindset shift toward seeing stillness as a necessary part of sustainable living and generational healing.

We also examine how cultural, generational, and societal pressures shape our relationship with work and rest, particularly while navigating two cultures. From early conditioning that prioritizes constant activity to the modern influence of hustle culture, we unpack why being still can feel unsafe or unfamiliar for many in Afro-Latino and Caribbean communities. This episode reflects on how these patterns show up in daily life, relationships, and our ability to set boundaries without shame, as part of breaking cycles that no longer serve us.

Throughout the conversation, we discuss how intentional pauses support nervous system regulation, clarity, and emotional balance. We explore redefining success for first-generation Americans through personal measures rather than external expectations, and how setting boundaries can create space for rest without disconnecting from responsibility, care for others, or community empowerment. Through authentic conversations and Dominican voices, this episode centers storytelling as a tool for healing, resilience, and long-term mindset and motivation.
