    Jun 20 2025

Do you like to travel? How about long ‘road trips’, do you like those? What’s the longest road trip you’ve ever taken and how much preparation did you make? Yesterday we met a Jewish scholar and teacher named Ezra and he was commissioned by the Persian Emperor, King Artaxerxes. Commissioned to what? Ezra was commissioned to lead a group of Jews from Babylon on a long road trip of about 750 miles to Jerusalem. Why? To encourage those rebuilding the city and especially to try and stimulate their spiritual vitality and their faithfulness to the laws of the God of Israel given to Moses about 1000 years before! • 25.06.19 “Upheaval” (Ezra 4:7-23)
    Jun 18 2025

‘Upheaval’ is a troubling word, especially when applied to leadership transitions, do you agree? “Upheaval” leaves people anxious, unsettled, fearful and maybe even terrified. “Upheaval” characterizes a time of anarchy and mayhem. Yesterday we looked at the closing verses of the wonderful story of Queen Esther. We considered that 8 years of peace and prosperity apparently followed the remarkable “PURIM” miracle of God which spared the Jewish people from annihilation on March 7, 473bc.

Have you ever imagined what it must be like for a law enforcement officer or military soldier to be fully armed, trained, equipped and commissioned to engage the enemy without restriction, especially if they are defending you or your people or the city? Or can you imagine being defenseless, unarmed, and knowing there is a fully armed enemy coming to destroy you?
